Well the "bad guys" are at it again. About 2.5 years ago (see post from Dec 2023), someone got ahold of our mailing address and used it to send out a bunch of mail with ph*ny checks (written from other company accounts) and other info in the envelope. Somehow someone has gotten ahold of one of our checks written to a supplier and "whitewashed" it (bank term).
If you have received a check from us recently and have not done business with us and are not expecting a check from us, please know that this is a fr*audulent check. Even if your bank will let you cash it or deposit it, our bank will refuse it and it will come back out of your account. If you receive one, please shred it and dispose of it.
It's a good example of if-it-sounds-too-good-to-be-true, it-probably-is. These sc*mmers are likely wanting you to send them some of the $. If you deposit this check and then send them $, you will be eventually be out that amount when the check written to you is returned by our bank.
We've had to implement further security measures with our bank and we can see each check that people attempt to cash/deposit, including the back with the signatures and bank that it is deposited to.
I applaud those who have called us to alert us to these checks arriving at their house. I wish there was an easy way to stop this but there is so much fr*aud info being used that it's hard to pinpoint.
