We just wanted to share a sad and unfortunate event as it realates to Electrical Safety. Due to
Some upcoming changes to the industry, this story has been brought back in to the spot light, this happened back in 2019.
This could have been prevented if GFCI (that little reset button on your outlet in your kitchen or bathroom) protection was installed on that air conditioning outlet. Florida being on the 2017 edition of the Electrical Code, the 2020 version is well on its way to being adopted by the local building departments. Thankfully at that time, GFCI protection will be a new requirement for your homes outside AC unit. This protection is highly recommended. We encourage you to ask your electrician for information about this new requirement! We always tell our customers it’s always better to be proactive rather than reactive.
By September 1, 2026 any exception to this rule will expire and then become a mandatory requirement.
Please, when having work done to your homes Heating and Cooling system be sure to utilize a reputable licensed and insured company.

Our community has seen a huge influx of population growth moving to the area! some may not be familiar with our contractor licensing law in Florida! Understand who you hire. Look up the individual on the DBPR's licensing page. There is a plethora of unlicensed contractors out there who hold their self out to be licensed and insured.
