We offer the highest quality of restoration and renovation while preserving the architectural integrity of the structure on every project we do.

Our story starts back in 1936, when Barney Streigel founded Streigel Contracting in Jasper, IN. Barney’s brother Tony began his apprenticeship after WW II ended and eventually took the company over in 1960. Joe Helming started work with Tony in 1973 and after eight years of learning the trade, Joe and his brother David purchased the business and Helming Bros was born. In 1995, the second generatio

n of Helmings began apprenticing at Helming Brothers Inc with a third generation coming on board in 2015. Though the name has changed and the business has continued to grow, the work we do maintains the same high level of quality that Barney started out with in 1936. Our facilities are a 9600 square foot space dedicated to building and maintenance services.

A beautiful transformation! We recovered this chimney with custom-stamped 16 oz. copper fleur-de-lis shingles, handcrafted by the Helming Brothers team. The decorative pattern adds timeless character while providing the long-lasting durability of copper.

2026 marks an exciting milestone for our small business—90 years in business!

Founded in 1936, we've proudly carried on a tradition of craftsmanship for nearly nine decades. These are two of the earliest known photographs of the workers of Striegel Contracting, the company that would later become Helming Brothers Inc. in 1981.

The photos were most likely taken around 1936 at St Joseph Parish - Jasper, Indiana. One detail you'll notice is the clock faces—they were black at the time and are white today.

In the photo with three workers on the steeple:
• Barney Striegel (wearing the broad-brim hat)
• Tony Striegel (in the bosun's chair, which resembles a swing)
• Urban Striegel

The second photo shows Barney Striegel standing atop the steeple cross of St. Joseph Church—a remarkable image that captures the skill, determination, and craftsmanship that helped build our company. Needless to say, our safety person would have a few comments if this happened today! 😊

This is the first post in our 90th anniversary series. Throughout the year, we'll be sharing historic photos, stories, and projects from across the region that have helped shape our company's history. We look forward to taking a trip down memory lane and sharing these pieces of local history with you.
