Congratulations to Joseph Austin, SCWBA Direct to Workforce Scholarship Recipient, hired by Westphal & Company!

Joseph was a SCWBA Student Build participant from School District of Janesville, WI Advanced Construction class. After graduation, Joseph was hired by a SCWBA member company while awaiting his acceptance into the electrical union. Westphal & Company provided to SCWBA Joseph's letter of support, confirming his employment commitment and sharing accolades for his work ethic and performance.

SCWBA is proud to award more than $10,000 in scholarships and support to outstanding South Central Wisconsin students this year. Through scholarships, programs, and initiatives, we are investing in the next generation of building trades professionals and the future of our industry. Congratulations to all 2026 recipients!

For more than 25 years, the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association Student Build Program has provided students with hands-on construction experience while helping develop the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

Last night, we proudly hosted our 2025–2026 Student Build Open House, celebrating another successful year of student achievement, industry collaboration, and workforce development while proudly recognizing our long time partnership with School District of Janesville, WI

This program would not be possible without the dedication of our member builders, subcontractors, suppliers, mentors, volunteers, instructors, community partners, and supporters who invest their time, expertise, and resources into these students and their future.

Thank you to Channel 15 for highlighting the impact of this program and the importance of construction trades education in our community.

SCWBA Education and Industry Advancement committee member, Stephanie Mawhinney (Knight Barry Title Services, attended Milton High School's Awards Ceremony last evening to present $4,500 in SCWBA Trades Scholarships to 5 students from Milton School District. This year SCWBA will award $10,000 in scholarships to students from the South Central Wisconsin region.

We will continue to accept direct to workforce scholarship applications until December 15, 2026. A new scholarship cycle begins each year in the spring.

This week students from School District of Janesville, WI Advanced Construction Class are on site at the SCWBA Student Build putting finishing touches on with beautiful landscaping, overseen by RH Landscape Design and Maintenance LLC as their trades mentors. Thank you to this year's General Contractor, Kaiser Design Build, and the many volunteers, suppliers, and subcontractors who make this build possible year after year.

Next week students will invite family, friends, district staff, and SCWBA members to tour this incredible home they built, start to finish, during the 2025-2026 Student Build Open House hosted by South Central Wisconsin Builders Association. The home will go on the market at the end of May, listed by Realty Executives Premier, with proceeds funding the next build and providing over $10,000 in industry scholarships to students from South Central Wisconsin.

We are excited to celebrate these amazing teachers and our member mentors and instructors next week!

Last week SCWBA Executive Officer, Heidi Van Kirk, attended WKOW's Tradigital Marketing Seminar in Madison. Presenters, Brian Allers, Eric Krieghoff, and Tom Ray, brought a ton of knowledge and research on media usage trends, advertising allocations, the customer journey, and point of entry recognition to help us create stronger advertising and marketing strategies for our organizations.

It was a special treat to share the table with Eric Schmoldt from Forward Janesville Inc, sparking more conversations about collaboration opportunities between our local chamber and our association with the goal of bringing more value and support to our members and our community, collectively. We plan to take these ideas and conversations forward together in the near future.

SCWBA is excited to welcome Tom Jonjak (WKOW) to our SCWBA All Committees Meeting on May 26th for a brief presentation on multimedia advertising, offering more insight and value for our member businesses. All SCWBA members are invited to attend on May 26th at 3:30pm to hear from Tom as well as get updates on SCWBA's programs and initiatives.
