Mosiac Breeding Flock UFD

1.5 year old

Mosaic breeding group. 4 hens, 1 rooster, and 2 grow-out pullets. Healthy birds, downsizing projects and focusing on other breeds

Mosaic chickens are a rare, large fowl breed known for their striking feather patterns and friendly personalities. Originating at Gold Feather Farms, they're a farm favorite that have been popular since 2017.

Temperament:
Intelligent, calm, and curious with big personalities. Friendly and low-moderately aggressive towards other flock members.

Eggs:
Lay medium cream-colored eggs.

Other traits:
Good egg-laying ability, poor meat production, and moderate-good cold tolerance. They are good at free-ranging and have moderate noise levels.

We hatched our very first Magpies, and what a nice surprise! 🥰

A few weeks ago, I rehomed some of my ducks while trying to get things organized around here. Around that same time, one of my ducks went broody, so I let her sit on whatever eggs she had collected. Long story short, we ended up with around 17 duck eggs under her.

Then my other duck, Fancy, decided she wanted to join in and sit on eggs too. Unfortunately, every duckling that hatched outside was found deceased. This weekend, I found four duck eggs that had started to pip, so I brought them inside and put them in the incubator for safety. 😳

I'm so glad I did because not only did they hatch completely healthy, fluffy, and adorable, but it turns out a couple of them are Magpie ducklings! 🦆❤️

I'd like to think this was a little gift from our girl Bandit, who passed away a couple of weeks ago. She always did have a way of surprising us. 🌈

This rain is no fun, but I’ve been enjoying watching these grow-outs and all their little personalities come out 🤎🐥🌧️

These babies are part of a project I’ve been working on lately. Not available yet, but I'm excited to see where this goes. 😊

I hate to make this post, but today we said goodbye to our duck, Bandit.

Bandit came to us after surviving a raccoon attack that nearly took her life. She was blind in one eye, but she never let that slow her down for a second. She still did exactly what she wanted, when she wanted, with all the attitude and personality that made her so special.
She was tough, resilient, and deeply loved here. Losing her hurts. 💔

Fly high, sweet Bandit. We will miss you dearly. ❤️🪽

Out of all the dahlia tubers I planted today, this one looked like a heart. 🤍 Little reminders that beauty is growing, even before the flowers bloom.
