Stuart friends — quick heads-up for homeowners and local businesses hiring handyman/carpentry work through “management companies” or app-based dispatchers.
Lately I’ve been getting calls from out-of-area companies claiming to be property management. They found me on Facebook because of my reviews, but they’re not local and the way they operate is a big red flag:
• They often don’t verify basics (insurance, W-9, references, licensing, etc.)
• They push for lowest price only, not quality or accountability
• I’ve been sent to at least one address that turned out to be a complete mess / miscommunication
• They try to pressure contractors to cut corners, including “cover it up” approaches instead of addressing real issues (today’s job involved concerns like moisture/mold risk and plumbing-related problems)
• They resisted bringing in the right pros (like a licensed plumber) when the job clearly called for it
• They’re likely using contractor bids to mark up and resell the job to the customer, and payment can be uncertain
This should worry anyone in Stuart. When a middleman is chasing the cheapest bid, the homeowner is the one who pays later — in leaks, mold, failed repairs, and liability.
My advice: Hire local, verified, and accountable. If you want to avoid the runaround, work with a local contractor directly — someone who lives here, has a reputation here, and will still be here if you need follow-up.
If you ever need carpentry/handyman work and want to deal direct (no middlemen), feel free to message me.
