October's calendar winner is Tauranga Bridge Marina Ltd! Nestled in Tauranga Bay New Zealand, Bellingham Marine completed an FRP reinforced sea wall for the marina in 2025. The seawall features Māori Motifs designed by Local Iwi.

It's September and we're shining a spotlight on Derrick Ames. Derrick has been with Bellingham Marine for almost 3 decades!! He serves as Project Manager for the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

Hometown: Ferndale, WA

Hobbies: If I’m not working then I enjoy catching anything on my boat, waterfowl hunting, spending time with family.

Your biggest or favorite project to date with Bellingham: There are too many awesome projects I've been a part of in my combined 30 years with BMI. Yokose Pier Floats in Japan comes to mind given the challenges onsite in Japan. It was post-tension dock system for the US Navy that was tensioned on land in both “L”
and “T” configurations. We worked as a team with local Japanese contractors to build those configurations on land and lift place in the water. The remote jobs in Alaska have always been fun and rewarding – unless your stuck on Saint Paul Island due to bad weather 😊. Building the US Arizona Memorial Dock in Pearl Harbor, HI is another dock I like to talk about with people when they ask “What do you build." Millions of people from around the world walk on that dock.

Why you like working for Bellingham: The short answer is the projects, the people, and the unique challenges. We build awesome projects, with awesome people, in awesome places. The pride at BMI runs deep and that pride is one of the many drivers for the success within BMI.

A look at Rue D’Amarres in Auckland, New Zealand.

Completed around 10 years ago, this private marina sits within a residential waterfront community and services the surrounding homes.

It was also one of our early projects using FRP walers, with both FRP walers and thru rods incorporated throughout the marina.

Refurbishment of d’Albora Rushcutters Bay Marina is well underway, with the project now at 50% completion. S and D Arms are now complete, with refurbishment of C Arm currently underway. The fuel wharf is also expected to be completed and operational within the next week, followed by the remaining A and B Arms shortly after.

We’re looking forward to seeing the project reach completion towards the end of the year. “It’s exciting to be working on such an iconic project at one of Sydney’s premium marinas, delivering a refurbishment that will support the marina for years to come.” Geoff Withycombe, NSW Manager, Bellingham Marine .

“The upgrade goes well beyond new pontoons. Every berth is getting enhanced power and fresh water, improved fire fighting capability and its own vessel pump-out. We have also upgraded the fuelling infrastructure, and the 24 hour fuel wharf will be back in service shortly. Staging the works arm by arm means our berth holders keep using the marina while all of that goes in.” Peter Moxham, d'Albora NSW Regional Manager.
