We recently had a homeowner come to us after having new flooring installed not long ago. Unfortunately, the floors were already lifting and showing signs of what appeared to be water damage.

When we asked who had completed the work, the homeowner explained that they had found someone through Marketplace. There are absolutely talented and trustworthy people who advertise through Marketplace, but in this case, important steps had been skipped—and the homeowner was never made aware that the problem went far beyond the flooring itself.

After inspecting the situation, we discovered issues involving the crawl space, water intrusion, damaged beams and subflooring, as well as multiple layers of old flooring that needed to be properly removed. The previous work had essentially covered up problems instead of addressing the source.

We were truly sorry to see this homeowner dealing with an ongoing issue after already paying someone to do the job. No homeowner should be left with bigger problems because necessary steps were skipped just to get the job done quickly.

We worked with the homeowner to correct the underlying issues. We addressed the water in the crawl space, extracted and allowed the area to properly dry, replaced damaged beams and subflooring, removed three layers of flooring, and installed a brand-new crawl space system, subfloor, and flooring so the home could finally be restored properly.

Dear homeowners, please do your research before hiring someone. Ask questions, request professional references, and make sure the person you hire understands the entire scope of the project—not just what is visible on the surface.

And please don’t be afraid to ask about recommendations, even if you can’t afford to complete everything at once. A true professional should be willing to explain what needs to be done, help you prioritize, and work with you whenever possible.

We are grateful that we were able to help this homeowner and give them the quality work and peace of mind they deserved. ❤️
