We’re proud to announce that Madison Behrens has stepped into a new role at JBL as Business Development & Preconstruction!

Madison will be focused on expanding JBL’s work in the commercial sector while continuing to grow the high-end residential work we’re known for throughout Northeast Florida.

He’s already been a driving force on our project management team, and we’re excited to see him bring that same energy, experience, and expertise into this role. It’s another exciting step for JBL as a new generation of leadership continues building on the legacy that got us here.

Join us in congratulating Madison on this well-deserved next step!

White and glossy had a good run. We’re starting to see people ask for the opposite.

More requests are coming in for matte finishes over high shine, warmer wood tones instead of stark white, and quartz that reads more like natural stone than a showroom sample. Part of that’s aesthetic. Part of it’s practical: matte surfaces show fingerprints and water spots far less than gloss, which matters in a kitchen that actually gets used every day, not just photographed once.

There’s a longevity argument too. White-on-white kitchens tend to date the fastest, because they’re tied so closely to one specific design moment. Warmer, more textured palettes read as intentional rather than trendy, which tends to age better both visually and functionally.

If a kitchen remodel is somewhere on your horizon, this is worth factoring in before you lock in finishes, not after.

The best commercial spaces don’t announce themselves. They just work.

Carryl Tire Co. is a full-service auto and fleet repair shop, family owned and built by brothers Jon and Jason Carryl, carrying their father’s name in the industry forward. Jason passed away suddenly last year, prior to the build breaking ground, and we’re honored to see the vision they started together carried forward in his memory.

A build like this has to work for two different experiences happening at once: someone waiting on an alignment needs somewhere comfortable to sit, and a fleet vehicle rolling through needs a bay that keeps moving. The layout had to serve both without either one feeling like an afterthought.

That thinking shaped every decision before a single finish was chosen. Where the waiting area sits relative to the service bays. What materials could handle a full day of foot traffic, tools, and fleet vehicles without looking worn down within the year. How natural light and sightlines make the whole space feel considered from the moment you walk in, inside and out.

The result is a space that looks as sharp as it runs.

It’s been a pleasure and an honor working with the Carryl family through this project, and watching their vision come together from the ground up has been one of our favorite parts of this build.

Take a look at how it came together.

AI can design a beautiful kitchen in about 10 seconds. Living in one is a little more complicated.

Between Pinterest, Instagram, and AI, it’s never been easier to dream up a beautiful home. Honestly, we love that. Inspiration is a great place to start, and some of those images are incredible.

The catch? They’re designed to look good in a picture, not necessarily to support the way you actually live.

A rendering doesn’t know where your kids drop their backpacks after school. It doesn’t know you’re always cooking with someone else in the kitchen or that your coffee maker lives in the same spot every morning. It definitely doesn’t know how much storage you’ll wish you had six months after the remodel is finished.

That’s where thoughtful design comes in.

The goal isn’t to recreate an AI image. It’s to take the ideas you love and shape them into a home that feels like it was designed specifically for you.

Because the best homes aren’t the ones that get the most saves online. They’re the ones you genuinely love coming home to.

The best homes don’t start with a floor plan.

They start with people.

How you spend your mornings. Whether you love hosting friends or prefer quiet evenings at home. Whether your kitchen is the center of everything or your favorite place is the back porch at sunset.

The most memorable homes aren’t the ones that follow every trend.

They’re the ones that feel like they were built for the people living in them.

That’s why custom design is about more than selecting finishes or choosing layouts. It’s about creating spaces that support the life happening inside them.

Because a home should feel personal long before you start decorating it.

Natural light changes everything.

The same room can feel completely different depending on when the sun hits it, how it moves through the space, and what was considered when the layout was designed.

That’s one of the advantages of a custom home or renovation. You’re not simply designing rooms. You’re designing how those rooms will be experienced every day.

Morning coffee in a kitchen filled with natural light. A living room that feels bright without feeling harsh. Indoor and outdoor spaces that feel connected rather than separated.

These aren’t accidental moments.

They’re the result of thoughtful planning, intentional window placement, and a layout designed around how people actually live.

Some of the best design decisions don’t stand out.

They simply make a home feel right.

The best technology in a home often isn’t the technology you notice.

It’s the lighting that feels right without thinking about it. The audio that fills a room without visible speakers. The ability to control comfort, security, and atmosphere without adding visual clutter to the space.

More and more homeowners are moving toward technology that blends into the architecture rather than competing with it.

Because great design isn’t just about what gets added.

Sometimes it’s about what doesn’t need to be seen.

The goal isn’t a home that feels full of technology.

It’s a home that feels effortless to live in.

A luxury home should do more than look beautiful.

It should feel comfortable in August. Stand up to Florida weather. Age gracefully. Perform the way it was intended to for years to come.

That’s where building science comes in.

While finishes, fixtures, and design details shape the experience of a home, the systems and decisions behind the walls play a major role in how that home lives over time.

The most successful projects don’t choose between beauty and performance.

They prioritize both.

Because a truly exceptional home should be just as impressive beneath the surface as it is above it.

Some homes don’t need to be reinvented. They need to be understood.

With this Ortega Forest renovation, the goal was to honor the character that made the home special while bringing it forward in a way that feels fresh, functional, and timeless.

On the exterior, thoughtful updates helped refine the presence of the home without losing its original charm. Inside, the focus shifted to livability. Cleaner flow, elevated finishes, and design choices that respect the architecture while supporting modern life.

The result is a home that feels renewed without feeling disconnected from its roots.

That’s often the best kind of renovation. Not louder. Just better.

Memorial Day always feels bigger than a long weekend.

Today, we’re remembering the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country and the families who continue carrying that loss every day.

We’re grateful for the freedoms their sacrifice made possible and for the courage it took to protect them.

From all of us at JBL Construction, thank you — and we hope today is spent with reflection, gratitude, and the people you love.
