Take a look at those arches. This Atlantic Beach home, currently under construction with Shoreline Construction Jax LLC, has an arched opening over both the garage and the front entry instead of a standard rectangular opening.

Russell Rowland engineered the structural support behind those signature arched openings, finding a creative solution to carry the second floor above while preserving the clean, uninterrupted curves of the design. It's the kind of detail that looks simple from the outside but takes real problem solving to get right.

Russell Rowland was founded in 2018 by Jackie Rowland and Adam Russell, two structural engineers who set out to build a firm that could keep pace with the region's growth without losing the personal relationships that make this industry work. Seven years later, the firm has grown from a two-person operation into a team spanning offices in Jacksonville and Tampa, licensed to practice in 12 states.

A restaurant renovation. A metal canopy over an elementary school pickup line. A warehouse built for a trucking company. A bowling alley. On paper, these projects have almost nothing in common. Behind the scenes, they all ran through the same structural engineering process at Russell Rowland.

That's the reality of commercial work: no two projects call for the same solution, but every one of them needs to be right the first time. Recent examples span everything from foundation design for pre-engineered metal buildings to reworking interior walls for a restaurant mid-renovation.

From single-family homes to commercial builds, the work changes with every project, but the standard stays the same.

Last week marked a major milestone for the trades industry in Northeast Florida. NEFBA held its ribbon cutting for the new Workforce Development Center, a 43,000-square-foot facility that will serve as the permanent home for its Apprenticeship Program.

The program has trained skilled trades professionals in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC since 1973, and this new space gives NEFBA - Northeast Florida Builders Association full control over its classrooms, labs, and long-term planning for the first time. With 540 apprentices currently enrolled and classes starting August 17, the center is set up to expand the program's reach for years to come.

Along with doing some structural work on the building, Russell Rowland also had the opportunity to sponsor the Builders Care Office.We are proud to support an organization so committed to building the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

This Neptune Beach home, built by Adele Designer Homes, sits close enough to the coast that every structural decision had to account for it. Russell Rowland engineered the structure, working through the specific requirements that come with building this near the water.

The result is a home that looks like it belongs on a postcard from the outside, but was engineered from the ground up to withstand the unique conditions of its location. That's the part of the process nobody sees in the finished photos, and it's exactly the point.

Ben Pearson has been part of Russell Rowland since 2019 when he became the first official employee to join Adam and Jackie. Today he leads the Tampa office as our Lead Engineer, and somewhere along the way he also became a three-time reigning fantasy football champion, a title the Jacksonville office has spent years trying and failing to take from him.

Off the clock, Ben splits his time between golf courses, grills, and the water, fishing and boating with his family whenever he gets the chance. He also plays drums, a skill he's kept sharp for 20 years, though we're still waiting on him to bring that talent to an office happy hour.

From day one employee to Tampa's Lead Engineer, Ben has helped shape this firm from the ground up. Happy birthday, Ben. May your fantasy football reign continue and your grill stay hot.

Some houses are built for a season. This one on Ramoth Drive is built for generations. Bluewave Builders, Inc. is putting up 8,800 square feet of concrete masonry block on a waterfront lot, three stories tall, with structural steel beams and columns holding it all together.

Russell Rowland designed the structural engineering behind it, working out how to support a home this size on a site this close to the water. When a client says "build it for my grandkids," the engineering has to back that up.
