Here’s a fun project from the Pizzazz Scenic archives that we can finally brag on a little.

When Universal Orlando created the Epic Universe Preview Center at CityWalk, they needed a way to give guests a taste of the worlds that were coming to their massive new theme park.

Enter Pizzazz Scenic Contractors.

Our Jacksonville team fabricated the four large golden portals used throughout the Preview Center, each representing one of Epic Universe’s incredible themed worlds:

Dark Universe
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk

They were large-scale dimensional scenic pieces, complete with layered architectural details, custom medallions, themed finishes and massive graphics that helped turn each section of the Preview Center into its own photo experience.

And because apparently we don’t know how to make anything small… 😂

The portals helped frame Universal’s first public look into these worlds before Epic Universe itself even opened. The Preview Center gave guests a chance to stand in front of each world, see the enormous model of the future park and get a glimpse of what Universal was building just down the road.

For us, this is the kind of project that never gets old.

Then one day you stand back and realize something that started in our Jacksonville shop is now being photographed by thousands of people from all over the world.

That’s pretty dang cool.

Introducing Rotta the Hutt!

Making his world premiere at D23 in Anaheim, Rotta the Hutt is currently on display as part of the Lucasfilm exhibit. Rotta joins Roxy the Rancor, Lemmy the Luggabeast, and Bella the Basilisk as the latest creature in our ever-growing family.

And Rotta is BIG.

On his base, Rotta stands just under 8 feet tall. Rotta himself is 6’4” tall and about 7 feet wide from fingertip to fingertip. The base is approximately 9 feet long, and the entire piece weighs around 550 pounds. The base is fully illuminated, and both of his axes light up as well.

After his D23 debut, Rotta will be appearing with Roxy at future conventions and events, so be sure to come out and meet the newest resident of Roxy’s Pit in person!

We’re happy to welcome Tom Goldsworthy to the Pizzazz Scenic team as our new Creative Director.

Tom brings more than three decades of experience in commercial art, immersive environments, scenic fabrication, and creative leadership. His career has been built around turning bold ideas into real-world experiences, from large-scale themed attractions and entertainment venues to high-impact commercial installations.

Throughout his career, Tom has led multidisciplinary teams through every phase of a project, from early concept and illustration to fabrication, finishing, and final installation. His hands-on artistic skill, combined with strong project management and client collaboration, makes him a natural fit for the kind of work we’re passionate about at Pizzazz Scenic.

Tom’s background includes creative leadership roles in themed entertainment, custom scenic production, mural design, and CNC fabrication environments. He is also highly experienced in advanced paint systems, conceptual development, budgeting, and guiding projects from vision to reality.

At Pizzazz Scenic, we are always focused on raising the bar creatively while delivering world-class craftsmanship for our clients. Bringing Tom onto the team strengthens that mission and positions us for continued growth in immersive environments, themed attractions, and specialty fabrication.

Step inside the RiverTown Welcome Center, where Pizzazz Scenic’s artistry and craftsmanship bring the natural beauty of St. Johns County to life. From a custom-crafted 12-foot cypress-knee welcome desk to a lush indoor forest of faux trees with soft mood lighting, every detail was designed to evoke the feeling of being immersed in RiverTown’s scenic surroundings.

Wander along a cobblestone path lined with luxe turf, explore a glowing, interactive trail map wall, and take in the immersive high-resolution forest murals that wrap the space in the textures and tones of the nearby riverbanks. Subtle touches like dock-style pilings add a hint of waterfront nostalgia, tying the whole space together.

This project was a true creative collaboration between Pizzazz Scenic and Mattamy Homes USA, built on mutual trust, shared vision, and a commitment to excellence. We're proud to help welcome future homeowners into such a thoughtfully planned community.

Our incredible crew faced some tough conditions this weekend while installing outdoor exhibits in West Virginia. Coming from Florida, we’re definitely not used to all this “white stuff” covering everything you see in the picture!
