I had a customer tell me his system wasn’t running and could I come and look at it and after I got there, he let me know that he installed a new thermostat. I told him that he should never ever ever ever try to change a thermostat again.😂

I got a call from a guy who said he got my information from a friend. He told me that a sheet rock/Handyman installed a mini split for him. The mini split ran for two hours shut off and wouldn’t run again. He paid the guy $2500. I told him the compressor was damaged and I would have to put a new unit in because I don’t Repair units that somebody else purchased online. I started to take the old unit out and noticed the covering for the line set when I took it off there was a bad kink on the suction line and almost all the insulation was missing all the way until the lines came out to the unit and then he taped on some type of Foam on those and then the inside unit he used painters tape to cover the line set where the joints screwed together, and he knocked a massive hole in the wall on the sheet rock side. His wife asked me when I put my new unit in. Would I be able to cover that hole and I told her no because the unit needed to be a little bit higher than the hole so the drain line will drain properly and she acted like she was very disappointed and I told her this is what you get when you have a sheet rock/Handyman install your unit instead of a licensed AC person. I fired mine up kicking 45° out the vent and I told her I’ll send my sheet rock and Painter guy to them so that they could get the sheet rock properly repaired and painted.

Before some of you who think you know everything about HVAC make your negative comments. We just wanna let you know in advance that the customer who lives on the beach with this home for many years we informed him that Goodman requires 5 feet of above clearance on the condensing unit to help lower head pressure. The homeowner says he’s been told this before in the past, but he doesn’t care because he replaces the systems almost every 5 years due to the corrosive salt air and he would prefer not to have the units sticking out on the side of the home we recently replaced his other Goodman unit up under the house 3 months ago that he couldn’t believe it lasted for 8 years.  I asked him if I could use this 5 ton condensing unit as a guinea pig to test the Bronze Glo coating and he agreed I am curious to see how well this does when it comes to salt air.

This is a 5 ton unit that is only 4 years old still cools but him and his neighbors say their systems which are all up under their homes may last five years due to salt air corrosion.
