Egregious. This is shockingly bad practice to use UL listed components and devices not rated for equipment that is specified/labeled on each and every electrical device/equipment made by the manufacturers.

Our team was onsite of a clients home to simply repair a few GFCI’s for their back yard when they noticed breakers not listed for the panel they were installed in. Upon investigation they found that these breakers had previously caused a fire within the panel and comprimised the busbar. It appears the last contractor just shuffled to another space along the busbar still using the wrong device type. The WORST part though, it looks like they used an oscillating tool to trim the device busbar connection points so that incompatible devices could be utilized.

If you’re a homeowner or property owner it is essential to know what you are looking for when it comes to red flags. Next time you are at your electrical panel, double check to see if the breakers in your panel match the label on the inside of the panel door. If not, there’s reason for concern.
