Water bill went up this month? Before you call anyone, go find your water meter. If nothing in the house is running, that dial shouldn't be moving at all.

A slow spin means a small leak. A fast spin means a bigger one, and the faster it's spinning, the bigger the problem.

This is the easiest way to confirm you actually have a leak before you start tearing into walls or guessing. Save this and check it the next time your bill looks off.

Noticed your energy bill creeping up and you're not sure why?

You're not imagining it; once it's consistently over 90° outside, your AC has to work significantly harder just to hold the same temperature.

The usual culprits: a dirty filter making your system work twice as hard, or a thermostat placed somewhere that's throwing off the reading entirely (near a lamp, in direct sun, or in the path of a vent).

Living on the coast is hard on your HVAC system in ways most homeowners don't think about.

Salt air speeds up corrosion on your outdoor unit. Humidity makes your system run longer and harder just to keep up. Sand and debris clog things faster than they would inland.

A few habits go a long way: keep the area around your outdoor unit clear, rinse salt buildup off the coils when you can, change filters more often than the "standard" recommendation, and don't skip your annual maintenance visit.
