Remember if you’re getting work done inside your house(especially sanding) and your AC quits working to check your filter first.

Saw this today while I was at my kids swim lessons. Many people don’t know this (including my own wife) but don’t put anything on top of your air conditioning unit. The warmer air that is coming off of the top of the unit is the warm air that is coming out of your house. If that warm air has a hard time coming out it’s going to make your air conditioner work harder (higher electric bill!) and could potentially cause motor and/or compressor failure. I told the kind homeowner before we left. She had no idea either! Just thought I would give helpful tip especially since we are coming up on warmer days and we need those HVAC units running well!

According to the Department of Energy 70-90% of HVAC Systems are incorrectly installed. This one was no exception to the rule. It was installed 6 years ago and had never had the filter replaced due to the filter door being pinched between the furnace and return plenum.
