Tom Ward and Mitch Blake are also known for exploring the use of new materials—and traditional materials used in new ways—Sod Roofs, Hand Thrown Venetian Plaster, Carbon Fiber Reinforcing-even their patented, stabilized Rammed Earth all contribute to giving their contemporary Architecture a timeless integrity. Since 1996, the award-winning architects have developed a “New West” architectural vocabulary that reflects the growing Western Modernism movement. We’re honored to see the ChaChe Residence featured in Western Art & Architecture in the new article, “Guided by Nature.”

Set on the valley floor in Jackson Hole, ChaChe embodies a philosophy that has guided Ward + Blake for decades: architecture can work with nature rather than compete against it.

The feature explores the thinking behind the residence—from carefully studying the movement of sunlight and preserving connections to existing waterways, to using natural materials, expansive glazing, passive solar strategies, and a ground-source heat pump. It also highlights the collaboration between Ward + Blake, EK Reedy Interiors, and Dembergh Construction that helped create a consistent architectural language throughout the home.
