Where you park matters when planning an EV charger.

Before choosing an installation location, consider where your vehicle’s charging port sits, whether you usually pull in or back in, and how the cable will reach without stretching or crossing a walking path.

The charger also needs to suit your vehicle and your home’s available electrical capacity. Have an electrician review those requirements before purchasing equipment or assuming an existing outlet will work.

A power strip and a surge protector can look almost identical, but they don’t necessarily do the same job.

A basic power strip provides additional places to plug in. A surge protector also includes components designed to help limit brief voltage spikes.

Check the product label and manufacturer’s instructions. An on/off switch alone doesn’t tell you whether the device provides surge protection, and neither product increases your circuit’s electrical capacity.

A breaker that keeps tripping needs attention. It may be responding to an overloaded circuit or another electrical fault.

If it trips repeatedly, stop resetting it and leave the affected circuit off until an electrician checks it. Don’t remove the panel cover or install a larger breaker to work around the problem.

Before calling, note what was running and whether the same equipment was involved each time. That information can help us narrow down the cause.
