GoldenRule Annual Service Project, was for a Family of 6 who's, father has recently been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. The grass isn't growing, but the moss sure is!

With minimal sun light, and wet conditions moss is ready to thrive. Here are some Ideas to limit moss growth.

1) Prune and cut back trees and plants that block light to you lawn
2) Add sand or other porous topping to help moisture stay off the surface
3) Test soil, and amend with lime

If you already have moss:

1) Spray for moss with Organic "Moss Melt", or Iron Sulfate. (Remember Iron Sulfate will stain pavement if not applied correctly
2) May need to De-thatch (March-April) if moss has spread. http://ow.ly/XXMjh http://ow.ly/XXMl8

Try to keep that moss out of the lawn in the Winter! Go Organic with Moss Melt, citrus base to kill moss! Or a liquid Iron Sulfate to keep moss out!

Summer heat is here!

Summer seems to have come early this year. In order to keep your lawn healthy and green, we suggest the following watering tip.

Water 3-4 times a week for approximately 20 mins in the morning or at night. You don't want to be watering during the middle of the day when it is hottest as this is counter productive.

Do you have Crane Flies?

The European crane fly is a common pest in the Northwest. Adult insects resemble an over sized mosquito and often perch on lawns or the flat walls of a home. Larvae, called leather jackets, hatch in the fall and feed on grass roots through the region's mild winter. If you see signs of this in your lawn, give us a call today!

What are the benefits of top dressing?

1. Increasing Microbial Activity: Microorganisms exist in good soils and help with nutrient uptake, making nutrients more available to the grass plants.

2. Improving Lawn Color: Due to organic matter in the top dressing mixture, lawns green-up following top dressing as these materials add nitrogen to the lawn. With sand top dressing, we fertilize to supplement nutrients.

3. Enhancing Seed Germination: When top dressing follows core aeration and over-seeding, germination rate is greatly enhanced.

Four grass seed planting requirements we follow at GoldenRule:

1. Grass seed needs to be in the soil, not just on the surface.
2. You need proper moisture and fertile soil. The ground should be moist, not soaked or wet.
3. Third factor to get seeds to germinate is the temperature. (April-June),(September-October). With that you need direct sunlight.
4. Pick the right seed for your lawn.
