🔨 Walnut Ave Renovation — Framing Progress

Framing is moving fast over at Walnut Ave as this 100‑year‑old home takes on its new shape. The first‑floor extension, second‑floor redesign, and full exterior rebuild are all coming together — and this stage shows just how much the layout has transformed.

We’ve opened up the structure, built out the new family room and mudroom, reframed the second floor for the new bedrooms, bathrooms, and master suite, and leveled out the old ceilings to prep for the next phase.

Proud to be working with Victoria Morelli Architecture once again to bring this renovation to life.
More updates coming as we move into mechanicals, siding, and exterior finishes.

🔨 Walnut Ave — Full Home Transformation

Murphy General Contracting, working with Victoria Morelli Architecture, took this 100‑year‑old Rockville Centre home through a complete interior and exterior rebuild — modernizing every inch while preserving its character.

Interior Work

We expanded the first floor with a new family room + mudroom, installed a 6‑ft slider with transom, widened interior openings, reframed the dining room, repaired termite damage, and recreated original‑style molding. Every space was fully sealed with zipper walls and dust protection before work began.

Upstairs, the entire layout was redesigned:

• New kids’/guest bedroom
• New full bathroom
• New hallway connecting the second floor
• Second‑floor laundry room
• Brand‑new master suite with pocket door
• Master bath with walk‑in shower, bench, vanity wall, and private toilet nook
• Large walk‑in closet
• Additional bedroom framed in
• Ceilings leveled throughout for a clean, modern finish

Exterior Work

The old unheated sunroom was completely demolished and rebuilt with new footings and framing. We added a full second‑floor extension, extended the chimney to meet code, installed all‑new windows, and wrapped the home in Hardie Board siding — 7” horizontal below and cedar‑style shakes above. The front porch is being modernized with new lattice, trim, and 10” round columns while reusing the existing railings.

A full transformation — inside and out — built to last.

🔨 Walnut Ave Renovation — Exterior Transformation (Part 3 — Final)

We’re back on Walnut Ave for the final part of this renovation series. In Parts 1 and 2, you saw the interior framing, layout changes, and the full second‑floor redesign. Now we’re heading outside, where the transformation really shows.

This used to be an unfinished, unheated sunroom — open, outdated, and sitting on old footings. We ripped everything down to the foundation, removed the original footings, and rebuilt the entire structure from scratch.

What’s happening outside:

• Brand‑new family room and small mudroom built off the back
• Full second‑floor addition above the new space, including a rear bedroom and the master suite
• Existing chimney extended above the roof peak to meet code
• Entire exterior getting Hardie Board siding — 7” horizontal on the lower half, cedar‑style Hardie shakes above
• New Azek fascia board and window trim throughout
• All‑new windows in the addition, plus replacement windows in the existing home
• Front porch getting a full refresh: plywood removed, white lattice, decorative trim, and new 10” round columns
• Reusing the existing railings but upgrading the look with the new column design
This exterior overhaul ties the whole project together — modern, clean, and built to last.

That wraps up the scope of work for our Walnut Ave Renovation series. More projects coming soon.

🔨 Walnut Ave Renovation — Second Floor Transformation (Part 2)

We’re upstairs now on Walnut Ave, where this 100‑year‑old home is getting a full second‑floor redesign — new layout, new rooms, and a completely updated flow.

What’s happening on this level:

• Former master bedroom → converted into a kids’/guest bedroom with a brand‑new closet
• Old closet space → framed into a full bathroom
• A new hallway was created to connect the entire second floor
• Second‑floor laundry room added for easier everyday living
• Brand‑new master suite with a soft‑close pocket door
• Master bathroom with walk‑in shower, bench, handheld, vanity wall, and private toilet nook
• Large walk‑in closet fully built out for the homeowners
• Additional bedroom framed on the opposite side
• Leveling old ceilings by sistering every joist for a clean, modern finish
• Plumber removing the old stack so framing can continue straight through

Skip and Marvin walk through every detail — from reframing to plumbing prep — showing how we turn old, uneven spaces into clean, functional, modern living.

Part 3 is coming next — we’re heading outside.

🔨 Walnut Ave Renovation — Scope of Work (Part 1)

Skip’s back on Walnut Ave in Rockville Centre, walking you through the first steps of this 100‑year‑old home transformation.

Today’s game plan:

• Extending the home with a new family room + mudroom
• Installing a 6‑ft slider with transom light
• Opening up the interior with a 4’3” widened doorway
• Removing an old dining room window and reframing for sheetrock
• Repairing termite‑damaged framing
• Re‑manufacturing original‑style molding to keep the home’s character
• Full dust protection: zipper walls, plastic barriers, wrapped furniture — every room sealed before work begins

Skip and foreman Marvin walk the crew through the details, showing exactly how we prep, protect, and modernize while respecting the home’s original bones.

This is Part 1 — the transformation is just getting started.
