Sometimes a gutter gets so full, plants start growing in it. 🌱 That's what we found on a recent job in South Merrick, and the surprising part? These gutters had screens.
The homeowner had screens put in years ago and, like a lot of people, was told they were "set it and forget it." Nobody had looked under them since. Unfortunately, some of the worst cleanings we do are on exactly these homes. Debris still works its way in, and with no one checking, it just keeps piling up out of sight.
To do this one right, we had to permanently remove the screens. Then we cleared out the thick buildup by hand, bagged all the waste, and made sure every downspout was flowing freely again. Clogged and overgrown to clean and ready for the next rain. 💪
Our honest take: screens are great, but they only buy you time in certain areas. They don't replace maintenance. Have them checked once a year in the late spring and you'll never end up with a garden on your roofline.
