Last week! We were granted the opportunity to repair and refinish this beautiful maple floor in a late 1800's victorian home in town!

At some point in the history books the fire had escaped the fireplace. We removed the previous tile repair for the area, laced in new flooring into the old & added a mitered frame around the existing hearth.

Cool patterns with a classic pine inlay in the formal dining. Working in these kind of homes is an honor. Restoring this kind old world craftsmanship I hold in high regard!

I wonder if in over 100 years time, petroleum based flooring options will look this good 🤔

White oak refinished!
This old white floor had been covered with carpet for the last 30 years or so.

We cleaned it up, sanded & stained it with Duraseal Nutmeg. Lots of scraper/hand work around the railing!

I personally think scraping is the most enjoyable part of refinishing a floor. If you understand the tool - it's just simple & wildly effective. No tricks just 💪🏼💪🏼

Maple staircase installed & finished!

We retrofit this staircase setup for carpet with hardwood maple skirts, risers & treads. Everything within 3/8ths rise & run for a code correct final product.

1 coat Bona Clearseal finished with 2 coats Bona Traffic HD.

Fun & challenging project. Very long & visible starting run - working into 52 lineal feet total of nosing & a couple reducing transitions. The long hall running thru the whole home poses a complicated finishing scenario as well!

Stuff like this used to really intimidate me. Now it's just another day doing something I enjoy.

We finished this out with 1 coat Bona Clearseal and two coats Bona Traffic HD. Pup approved!

Beautiful, busy & just like God made it. Sounds pretty relatable, currently. This is a 2.25" 3rd grade maple floor. Material grown in the UP, milled by Robbins in Ishpeming & installed in Republic. Can't really get any more local/better than that. All floors I install and finish are a favorite, but ones like this really fit the narrative.

Finish consisting of x1 coat Bona Clearseal x2 coats Bona Traffic HD.

Quick sand, stain & refinish on this prefinished engineered red oak floor!

This one went out in Bona's Puritan Pine stain color, coated on top with Traffic HD Satin.

This variation of engineered flooring has only about 1/8th" wear surface so you must be diligent in your sanding work to not burn thru it! Taking that into account, we put 3 total coats of Traffic on this floor because this is the very likely the last time it could be sanded back to bare wood. It needs to last!

It's something to consider when considering materials for a project. This was installed over & glued to a concrete slab. So removing it is no small deal. A full 3/4" engineered product with 1/4" wear surface would still have many, many opportunities to be refinished.

Many flooring materials on the market these days aren't necessarily here for the long run. We like to think beyond that.

If there's no timeline on these smaller projects they are great to keep in the back pocket to fill a gap between larger jobs, which is what was happening in this case!
