This week's Toolbox Safety Talk is about:
Watching Your Step on Wet Surfaces.

Wet surfaces always present a workplace hazard. Water from rain, cleaning and accident spills can result in slippery conditions.

Slipping on a wet surface can result in injury, and can even be fatal.

⚠️Here are some Anti-slip Tips:⚠️

✅Clean up any spills immediately.

✅Use caution signs to clearly identify when a surface is wet or likely to become wet and remove them as soon as he surface is dry.

✅Check for equipment and electrical currents that may not be grounded and wires that are not insulated.

✅Slow down! Your safety is more important.

✅Take small centered steps to keep your balance centered.

✅Use handrails if present.

If you have any doubt about the safety of your worksite, whether it concerns a wet surface or another hazard, talk to your supervisor.

It takes the cooperation of the entire team to keep the worksite safe!

Of the many tools that we have available, our hands are the most valuable. There are many things you can do to keep your hands safe, and here are a few of the most common:

-Wear gloves
-Remove rings
-Be cautious of sharp objects
-Make use of machine guards
-Stay alert for pinch points when moving objects
-Speak up if you are unsure about the type of gloves to wear

At FOSO Construction, safety is our top priority.

This week’s Tool Box Safety Talk was about hand tool safety!

Hand tools are a common and useful tool in many industries, but they can also be dangerous if used improperly. To ensure the safety of yourself and those around you, it is important to follow proper hand tool safety guidelines.

Here are a few key hand tool safety tips:

🛠️ Use the right tool for the job: Make sure to select the appropriate tool for the task at hand. Using the wrong tool can lead to accidents or damage to the tool.

🛠️ Wear protective equipment: Wear gloves, safety glasses, and other protective gear as needed to prevent injuries.

🛠️ Inspect tools before use: Check hand tools for any damage or wear before using them. Discard or repair any damaged tools to prevent accidents.

🛠️ Follow proper usage instructions: Make sure to read and understand the instructions for using hand tools before using them.

🛠️ Use caution when working with power tools: Power tools can be particularly dangerous if used improperly. Make sure to follow all safety instructions and use appropriate protective equipment when working with power tools.

By following proper hand tool safety guidelines, you can reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, and ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Our Toolbox Safety Talk this week was all about keeping the worksite safe with PPE (personal protective equipment).

One of the most important things workers can do to stay out of harm's way on the job is to use PPE properly.

Common examples of PPE are:
- Foot protection such as steel-toe boots
- Head protection - hard hat
- Hearing protection - proper ear plugs
- Respiratory protection - respirator or mask
- Fall protection - safety harness or guardrails

You stand a better chance of continuing successfully with your job and your home life if you are protected from possible serious injury by protective equipment.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Safety Matters!
We start each week with a Toolbox Talk on worksite safety. This week our topic was Silica Exposure Precautions.

Silica is found in commonly used materials such as concrete, asphalt, coal dust and natural stone. It can be inhaled when dust is created during handling.

-Always wear proper personal protective equipment such as a respirator.
-Use water sprays and ventilation systems to control dust exposures.
-Check the product's Safety Data Sheet to see if silica is listed.
-Always inspect your respirator before use.
-Wear disposable or washable work clothes and vacuum the dust from your clothes or change into clean clothing before leaving the worksite.
-Always ask your supervisor if you have any questions about silica exposure and safety precautions.

Take extra care at all times when working with silica - a little dust now can cause big health problems later.

In 2020, more than 1 in 5 workplace deaths occurred in the construction industry. Just over one-third of the deaths were due to falls, slips, and trips, and were almost entirely from falls to a lower level.

We keep our focus on safety everyday which ensures our crews work together to keep each other safe on the work site.
