Bone's Custom Guitars

Bone's Custom Guitars Just a place for you to see my work and to ask for work to be done, whether if repairs or a new guitar- Everything will just keep on getting better.

A page to display my passion for music and building things, mostly all things guitar or instrument related. I take commissions to build, modify, or repair instruments- and do it all right here in my apartment. All progress in all things I'll put down in posts.

I built a thing, and It's ALMOST FINISHED(TM). But seriously with everything around me the past month and a half and for the next 6 months I'm going to put this in hiatus, all of this is being put on hold. I won't be taking any commissions, I won't be doing any repair jobs. Instead I'll be focusing on fixing my life and getting a proper workspace (a building or garage of some sort) so that I can actually make this from a finantially fruitless frelancing gig into an official business. (And get licensed to do so). This might take me from 6 months to around two years or even more so.

Though it won't be the end of me building things. I'll still use this page as a means to build a portfolio. So expect a name change and everything else.

So I was given a commission that put on the backburner with school and a depression coma. Until around April I finally got myself out of it so I can work on a solid body build. Initially to be made out of cedar, then into a weird cedar/oak combination followed by the horrorshow, patchwork ascetic that made up the whole. Recycled guitar parts and scraps as per usual.

The cedar really brings out the warmth and harmonic resonance of the guitar, as I think it's going to be my wood of choice to building guitar bodies out of.

So I totally haven't updated since Addison had me fix a thing on her Fender, and that was several months ago. So here's what happened with me:

-I moved out, currently living in another location.

-I'm still working on a commission on the side while getting myself back on my feet.

-I have a small acoustic guitar being made as practice for a future feature project that I'll also post on here. I'll post the entire build in a few days upon completion.

-I'm also going to collect a lot of parts, materials, and tools for future commissions that I'll open up for in the summer.

Sara Herbest and two guitars that she had me had do some work on. Upon receiving them, they were dirty, and were in bad need of a set up and a new set of strings. The Epiphone's neck even broke in, with the only thing holding it together is the truss rod and the fretboard. So I glued it back up, did some sanding and polishing and sent it back on her way. :) Another happy customer.

Two guitars belonging to two very different individuals from two different times, a Seven Stringed beauty with a bow'd neck, and a guitar that belongs to Aldo, whom wanted me to repair the neck and to 'make it sound like crap'. I completed my objectives.

So I haven't made a post in a while and while I got back into school and settled in, a handful of events have slowly nudge me into wanting to dive back into this as an actual business, and I think I also want to take this further. I'm going to look into training myself into doing a variety of modifications, finishes, and even do full repair works on guitars proper. This will also not do without a decent amount of resources invested into this. So for the projects that I have on hold, I'll definitely be wanting to finish by the end of this year.

Hopefully I'll have something to show for all of this by that time or even within this month. Thank you all for being patient and believing in me.

So on July 3rd, when I went over to the Irving to play at the open mic, I met this amazing Atlanta-based R&B singer and guitarist that goes by the name of SAJE. We Jammed out during my set due to the fact that all the slots were filled, and hung out throughout the duration of the evening. Then she asked me if I could help restore her girlfriend's dad's childhood guitar, which was completely in shambles. I thought to myself, "sure, why not?" and she came in the morning with it and we got to work on it. It took all day to do, the only regret was in how we didn't exactly have the time to put in a proper finish and to put in additional details and fixes. Overall, she loves it, the dad whom it was for loves it, and all is more or less good.

So I got to work on a thing, a commission to make something wonderful out of scraps and pallet wood. Bought the neck from Eden Guitars, and customized the headstock. I didn't get to take pictures of the finishing and final installation, but I do have the final results: which is a unique, one of a kind instrument that plays and sounds great.

Hey guys, just currently sifting through my photos and using them to display whatever things that I've messed with on here. I'm going to get started on two simultaneous body builds for tomorrow, I might not spend a lot of time on it because of Mother's Day and work, but as I digress- this is going to be fun. One of them is a commission, the other is just to practice and test ideas out on, or at least that's the idea.
