Milestone recently joined Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker, city leaders, local businesses, and community members to celebrate the completion of the Bluffton Road Bridge reconstruction project with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The newly reconstructed bridge provides increased load capacity, improved traffic flow, wider pedestrian pathways, enhanced accessibility, upgraded lighting and stronger connections throughout the corridor.

This month, as construction projects are under way, summer travel is still in swing and back-to-school traffic is just beginning, we're reminded that individual actions behind the wheel impact the safety of everyone on the road. Remember to buckle up, keep distractions to a minimum, slow down and pay attention to work and school zones as you drive. Together, we can all do our part to keep our roads safe.

Heather Alsaati, Milestone Safety Representative for the Indianapolis and Terre Haute regions, earned her Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) in July. This achievement reflects Heather’s commitment to professional development and strengthens Milestone’s safety program by enhancing expertise in several key areas. Additionally, the ASP certification serves as an important step toward obtaining the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential.

Key benefits of the ASP certification include:
✅ Hazard Identification and Risk Management: Strengthens the ability to identify workplace hazards, conduct safety audits and perform comprehensive risk assessments.
✅ Regulatory Compliance: Expands knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements across a variety of industries.
✅ Emergency Preparedness: Enhances the development and implementation of effective emergency response and preparedness plans.

Heather joined Milestone in 2023 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management from Indiana State University. She resides in Terre Haute with her husband, Raoof, their three cats, and dog, Zooey. Outside of work, Heather enjoys gardening and volunteering with her local community theater.

Today is National Intern Day, and we're proud to recognize the interns spending their summer with Milestone. From project management and estimating to field operations and bridge construction, these future industry leaders are gaining hands-on experience and helping shape the future of transportation infrastructure.

“What I’ve enjoyed most is the opportunity to be out in the field and experience a variety of projects firsthand," said Shelby Parker, a senior at Purdue. "Everyone has been welcoming and willing to answer my questions, which has made it a great learning experience. Seeing the work that goes into building and improving our roads has made me even more certain about pursuing a career in heavy civil construction.”

Greg has been part of the Milestone team for more than 25 years, continuing a family legacy that began with his father. Today, Greg plays a critical role on our mechanic team, maintaining, repairing and improving the equipment that helps our crews deliver quality work safely and efficiently. His story is also a reminder of the importance of family, resilience and supporting one another through life's challenges.
