Here’s tips from Hamilton County how to get your well back up and running after you disinfected it. Stay safe!

Safely Turning Your Water Back On After Flooding - Wait for the “all‑clear.”

Only restore your water supply once local officials say it’s safe. Floodwater can bring harmful bacteria, sewage, and chemicals.

Check your well or water source.
If you use a private well, don’t turn on the pump until it’s checked and sanitized by a professional. Even a public system may need testing before it’s drinkable.
Flush and clean your pipes.
After the water is safe, run every tap until the water is clear and smells normal. Discard the first cold water that comes out.
Follow boil‑water orders.
If local officials issue a boil‑water advisory, bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.
Use clean water only.
Don’t drink, cook, or brush teeth with water from unknown sources. Always use boiled, bottled, or treated water.

Our thoughts and prayers with everybody that’s been affected by the floods here Indy.

The water is going down, but the danger isn't over yet. Before you go back into a flooded basement or crawlspace: shut the gas off, kill the power at the breaker (only if you can reach the panel without standing in water), and do NOT turn a flooded furnace, water heater or AC back on. Soaked gas valves and control boards get replaced, not repaired — even if the unit still fires up. And take your photos before you clean up, insurance will want them.
