Assembly Hall: a place built for every season🍂🏀

The entry plaza outside the home of Indiana basketball, is designed to hold up against anything Bloomington has to throw at it: a game-day crowd, campus foot traffic, and the shifting seasons. It’s a space that transforms with the year; in the fall season, the proud ornamental grasses and the row of red maple trees don their cream and crimson colors, rooting for the Hoosiers alongside campus crowds.

For us, Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is a reminder that the best landscapes have no off-season; they are always moving, especially in the season of change🍁

The 2026 Indiana Society of Landscape Architecture (INASLA) conference theme is Beyond the Drawing Board, reminding everyone that great design is only the beginning. The conference is full of impactful sessions that explore the people, processes, partnerships, and unexpected challenges that bring projects to fruition.

This year’s conference is extra special to us as several members of our Context Design team are helping bring the vision to life. From planning to presenting, we’re excited to support the conference that invites the Indiana landscape architecture community to come together.

Stay tuned this week as we share more from the conference!👥☺️🌳✍️

Flashback Friday!🗓️🔄
20 years ago, a vision for the future of Columbian Park Zoo came to life. For more than a century, Columbian Park Zoo has been part of the fabric of Lafayette, creating memories and connecting generations with animals and the natural world. The Master Plan honored that legacy while reimagining a Zoo that could serve the community for generations to come.
Two decades later, Lafayette Parks continues to use the master plan to bring that vision to life.  We’re proud to look back at where it began and the lasting impact that vision continues to have today!

Happy National Day of Play!🛝🤸‍♂️🌤️

This past Saturday, we celebrated by inviting our Context team and their families to Old School Park in McCordsville for a day of slides, swings, and sunshine.

Because the best designs aren’t just built; they’re lived in, played on, and loved. This September, we’re celebrating Design in Motion: the work that never stops growing💛😊

Flashback Friday (a few days late)🗓️🔄
Flashing back 15 years to the opening of Whiting Oil Stadium in Whiting, Indiana.
As part of a significant reinvestment in public greenspace along the Lake Michigan shoreline, an underperforming high school baseball field in Whiting Park was reimagined to elevate America’s pastime in Whiting. Our team collaborated closely with the City of Whiting to help shape the stadium, diamond, and fan experience surrounding the ballpark.
More than a place to play competitive and semi pro baseball, this award-winning facility hosts concerts, festivals, and corporate events throughout the year, helping activate downtown businesses and attract private development interest.
Today, the ballpark is home to Whiting High School and the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave baseball team.
Here’s to 15 years of creating new memories at Whiting Oil Stadium.

Flashback Friday (a few days late)🗓️🔄
Ten years ago, CityWay Apartments opened its doors to its first tenants and became something bigger than a place to live, gather and connect. It helped redefine the southeast edge of downtown Indianapolis, creating a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood where streets, patios, courtyards, and public spaces bring people together.
A decade later, CityWay remains an important part of downtown’s evolution and a testament to the impact of thoughtful urban design and recognized with Monumental Affair award,  Indiana Chapter of the American Society’s Honor Award, and a Urban Land Institute’s Global Award of Excellence Finalist!
Here’s to 10 years of CityWay and its lasting impact on Indianapolis!

A peek inside the design process: where every project begins✍️🌱💡
This isn’t one moment or one project...it’s a collection of them all coming together and moving at once. Sketches, swatches, scales, and a whole lot of “what if we tried this instead?”- These are the tools that turn ideas into places people love.
Great design doesn’t start finished. This month, we’re celebrating Design in Motion, Work in Progress: the projects still taking shape and the ones that never stop growing. This is where it all begins😊
