Going into a lot of homes we get to see a lot of different things. Sometimes you look at a job and say that whoever did it did it right. Then sometimes you scratch your head thinking are you sure this was a professional company that did this and not a DIY homeowner?

Well I understand a little more on this happens. Without mentioning any names or companies this is a true story:

We interviewed someone recently. They took our pretest and scored 22.5 out of 30. Which is not horrible, but I am also going to say this is not the hardest test in the world. For context later they actually said they thought they bombed the test and thought about leaving after taking the test thinking they had no shot.

We go through the interview process and it is clear they have potential, but still has a lot learn as would anyone with 2.5-3 years experience.

We offer the job. They accept the job. We contact them a few days before they are to start letting them know the background and driving record came back good. They let us know they received another offer from someone else. It would be for them to work for themselves though.

Sounded odd so we said what do you mean. They said they will allow them to be a run their own business as a subcontractor for them. Using their license to work off of and they will give him a 1099.

Meaning here is a person who has basic knowledge and will be meaning well, but realistically does not have the knowledge or experience to truly be out on their own yet.

So to make a long story short the next time I see a bad job in a home I will not be surprised if I hear certain names being mentioned.

Want to help your HVAC system out? Check and change the filter on a routine schedule. When your filter is dirty it restricts airflow, forcing the system to work harder. This will shorten the unit's lifespan and can potentially lead to costly repairs.

We have all heard about electric bills in homes getting expensive. With heat pumps as it gets colder the heat pump will lose capacity. You then will bring on Auxiliary/Emergency heat to make up that difference which is 2-4 times as expensive to heat with vs the heat pump.

So if you have an older heat pump or that electric bill is getting out of control check out the Trane 17 SEER2 Multistage Heat Pump system. This unit is tested to provide a 70% heating capacity ratio at 5° F and deliver 100% heating capacity down to 27° F.

Achieve energy savings and increased comfort without the higher cost of a variable-speed system with the R-454B-compliant 17 Multi-Speed Heat Pump.

We had a visitor last night drop by the office during non office hours and try to take a peek in our van. He must have not found exactly what he was looking for or the camera's with the lights scared him away. He definitely was looking to see if there was something he could get and either the locks or the fact he was on camera scared him away, but if you had a visitor also last night this might be your person!

Update for Tax Credits:

**H.R.1 Bill Signed into Law: As of July 4, the H.R.1 bill was signed into law, which has shortened the timeline for the availability of certain tax credits.
**Section 25C Phased Out: Section 25C of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), known as the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, will be phased out after 2025 and will no longer be available. This means qualified equipment must be installed by December 31, 2025, to claim the incentive.

We have always said three key things go into a system and separate a lot of companies : Brand, Installation and Maintenance. The News dropped an article today and the first paragraph starts:

"In 2018, the Department of Energy (DOE) conducted a study that found that 70-90% of newly installed residential HVAC systems were installed with significant, detectable faults. That’s 70-90% of HVAC systems that weren’t operating at their fullest potential. Many of them still aren’t. "

That's a lot of incorrect installations. It is crucial to make sure you select the correct company that stands behind their work otherwise you could end up with a lot of problems later on.

With studies revealing that up to 90% of systems are installed with critical faults, the HVAC industry is facing a legal reckoning.

Just a heads up for AES Customers be on the lookout:

June 1st marked the start of AES Indiana CoolCents (Demand Response Programs) event season for non-switch/non-emergency events. The event season will last from June 1st – September 30th. Last year we called a total of 1 event, and I would expect that we see a higher number this year. Events can be from 2-4 hours long, most are 4-hour events.

Event Conditions:

• Maximum Number of Events: There is a 15-event maximum for traditional 4-hour events

• Curtailment Hours: Curtailments can be called on non-holiday weekdays only

• Notification: There is an 18 hour before event notification sent to customers with enrolled thermostats, (This is not sent to switches).

• Event Duration: Curtailment length is limited to a maximum of four hours per day

Typically, events are held on Indianapolis Knozone Action Days, but not always.

Any enrolled thermostat can opt out just by adjusting the temperature on their device. However, AES Indiana customers with switches will need to contact AES Indiana directly, to opt out. They can call 866.908.4915.
