One of the most important parts of any building is its exterior. A building’s exterior protects the structure, systems, and occupants. When designing the exterior of any structure, it is important to pick materials that are not only durable and functional but are also aesthetically pleasing.

At the Project RHO Duplexes, built by Affordable Housing Corporation, the decision was made to use engineered wood siding to balance budget and performance. This product is more durable than vinyl siding and is also lighter and more cost-effective than fiber cement siding. The wood texture and earthy tones help to create a peaceful ambiance that brings vibrancy to the neighborhood while also promoting a healing environment for occupants.

Look Up!

The ceiling is often one of the most overlooked surfaces in a space, but it can have a major impact on how a room feels, functions, and is experienced.

From acoustics and lighting to scale, materiality, and visual interest, the "Fifth Wall" is more than just what's above us. It's another opportunity to design with intention.

Because when every surface has a purpose, the ceiling shouldn't be an afterthought.

A building's performance starts long before the finishes go in. A properly detailed weather barrier protects the wall assembly from air and water intrusion which helps preserve insulation, structure, and long-term performance.

At 100 South, thoughtful detailing, field observation, mock-ups, and submittal review helped ensure the barrier performed as intended.

Because the barrier is only as good as the details!
