Let’s talk about a problem plant - lemon balm! Pollinators love it, but it loves to out-compete other plants. In our opinion, you should avoid it, unless you have plans of allowing it to take over one single bed. Though it is not technically on the invasive list, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it on there in the near future. It is super fragrant, but also super stubborn!

A beginner’s guide to some “light pruning”! Don’t be afraid of getting in there a little bit when needed. The majority of plants are more resilient than you think! Prune out the bad 👉 reap fresher foliage and blooms!

Unless you take a plant out of a pot and it is extremely loose or has little to no roots, you should be doing this before planting! Disturbing roots causes temporary stress on a plant and signals a change is happening, but a good change! It alerts the plant to produce new feeder roots that go out, instead of staying in the same pattern they have been growing in while in the pot. Prepare your plants to do their best! 😊

Reference our previous post to see the in-between stage! We have worked on this property for 3 years now, tackling different sections of the yard, and this year was the front’s turn! Here is an example of just how much a landscape can change, with some very simple changes. We look forward to seeing it mature in the next couple of years!
