The cheapest way to prevent a burst pipe this winter costs about twelve dollars and ten seconds: disconnect your garden hoses before the first freeze.

Leave a hose attached and the water trapped in the spigot freezes, expands, and can crack the pipe inside your wall — where you won’t know until it thaws and leaks into the house.

Pull the hoses, drain them, and if you’ve got shutoffs for the outdoor spigots, close them. Future-you says thanks.

Business owners — before the first real cold snap, get your rooftop units and boiler serviced. A heating system that sat idle all summer can kick on with a cracked heat exchanger, dusty ductwork, or a carbon monoxide risk, and the worst time to find out is a packed Monday in January. A pre-season service call is cheap insurance against an emergency closure. (317) 826-0940 · mwremediation.com

Quick one for the business owners: when were your fire extinguishers last serviced?

Commercial extinguishers need an annual professional inspection — and it’s one of those things that quietly slips a year, then two.

Fire Prevention Month is a perfect reminder to check the tags and book the service. Small task, big protection for your people and your building.

Here’s one most people never think about: clothes dryers cause nearly 14,000 home fires in the U.S. every year, and the #1 cause isn’t a malfunction — it’s lint.

And not just the lint in the trap. It builds up in the vent line behind the dryer, where you can’t see it, and that’s what catches.

As dryer use ramps up for the season, pull the dryer out, clean the trap every load, and have the full vent cleared. Five minutes that genuinely prevents a fire.

Fire Prevention Month isn’t just for homes.

If you run a business, this is the month to check the three things that save lives and buildings: working alarms, serviced extinguishers, and an evacuation plan everyone actually knows.

If fire or smoke ever does hit, we’re the local crew that gets you cleaned up and reopened — but a few minutes of prevention beats all of it.

October is Fire Prevention Month — a good nudge to spend ten minutes on the thing nobody thinks about until it's too late.

👉 Test every smoke alarm.
👉 Know two ways out of each room.
👉 Keep a working extinguisher in the kitchen.

We're best known for water and flood work, but we restore homes after fire and smoke too — and the whole team would rather you never need us for either. Stay safe out there, neighbors.

Questions about protecting your home?

We're always happy to talk. (317) 826-0940 · mwremediation.com

After-hours emergencies don't only happen at home.

Schools, churches, and city buildings flood too, and they usually do it on nights and weekends when nobody's there to see it. A supply line gives out Friday night in an empty classroom wing. A roof drain backs up over a Saturday at church. Nobody knows until someone unlocks the door, and by then the water has had hours to soak into flooring, drywall, and everything stored on it.

These are buildings the whole community counts on: Monday-morning classes, Sunday services, the city offices people need to reach. When one of them takes on water, the clock matters.

We've been the after-hours call for Central Indiana since 1989. When you call at midnight on a Saturday, a real person answers, and a local crew starts working on your next step.

If you look after a school, a church, or a public building, save our number where your facilities team and keyholders can find it.

When there's water, mold or smoke damage in your business, the first question is usually, "Do we have to close?"

Not always. In a lot of cases, we can wall off just the damaged area and let the rest of your space keep running.

Here's what that looks like:

STARC walls go up around the work zone. These are sturdy, modular temporary walls with a door, so our crew can get in and out and your space still looks professional.
Air scrubbers run inside it. These HEPA-filtered machines pull air through the work area and filter it, so the dust and spores stay on our side of the wall instead of drifting into your hallways and offices.
We plan the work around your hours. Noisy or messy steps can happen before you open or after you close.

Your customers keep coming in. Your staff keeps working. The damage gets fixed on the other side of the wall.

To be upfront: it isn't the right fit for every job. A big loss, contaminated water or a health or fire inspector's call can mean closing part or all of the building for a while. We'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at, and why.

The water you can see is usually the easy part.

After a leak, a burst pipe or a storm, water doesn't stay where it landed. It wicks up drywall, soaks into insulation and settles under flooring — places that can look completely dry from the outside. And if it's left there, mold can start growing within 24 to 48 hours.

That's why our crew doesn't guess. We bring two tools to every water job:

1️⃣ Thermal imaging. Damp materials often read cooler than the dry ones around them, so a thermal camera shows us where to look — without opening up your walls.
2️⃣ Moisture meters. The camera points; the meter confirms. A reading tells us what's actually wet, not just what's cold.

From there we map the full wet area, dry all of it (not just the spot you can see), and keep measuring until the readings say it's done.

If you've had water in your home or business — even if it "looks fine" now — give us a call. We'll walk you through it.
