Thought I would share some cutting board care thoughts for those of you who actually use your cutting boards :)

DO NOT:

Put the board in the dishwasher
Let the board stand in water
Use bleach or other harsh cleaners/chemicals
Put a wet board flat to dry

DO:

If your board has stains or smells, you can use lemon juice or white vinegar, then wash the board.

Wash your cutting board with soap and warm water. After washing the cutting board, towel-dry immediately and let it air dry standing up or on a raised rack with air flow underneath.

Once your cutting board is thoroughly dry, oil the board. Be generous, you want the surface to be totally covered and dripping. Most importantly, let the oil soak into the cutting board for as long as possible; overnight if you can.

Put your cutting board on a wire rack or at least upright to dry. Once dry, wipe off any excess. If necessary, oil again.

Depending on how often youn use your board, you may need to oil your cutting board as frequently as once a month but at least when it is obviously dried out.

There are many products on the market. Just make sure what you choose is food safe and follow the directions.
