Our Spring 2026 intern capstone projects reflect REA’s commitment to life-long learning, curiosity, and knowledge sharing across all levels of the firm.

This spring, our planning interns from the University of Cincinnati explored how design can shape more connected, visible, and people-focused communities through two unique research initiatives:

🚍 Transit Legibility
Alexis Spurlock, developed concepts for redesigned signage and stop infrastructure for Cincinnati Metro. Her project focused on improving accessibility, rider experience, and strengthening transit’s presence within the public realm.

💧 Urban Waterways
Dylan Gomez examined the history of waterways in Indianapolis and explored opportunities to daylight Pogue’s Run near downtown. His research studied how cities across the country have reintegrated waterways into urban environments and identified strategies related to land use, urban design, function, and transformation.

We’re proud to support emerging professionals as they contribute fresh ideas and perspectives.

A new chapter for nature and community has officially begun. 🌿

This week marked the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Phase 1 of Carpenter Nature Preserve, transforming the former Wolf Run Golf Course into a regional park and wildlife sanctuary along the Eagle Creek corridor.

Designed in collaboration with DELV Design and Eco Logic LLC, the first phase introduces trails, nature-based play, gathering spaces, and the Prairie Pavilion, all rooted in preservation, education, and connection to the surrounding landscape.

We’re grateful to the Town of Zionsville - Government, Zionsville Parks Foundation, Zionsville Parks and Recreation, partners, donors, and community members who helped bring this vision to life, with more exciting phases still ahead.

🏁 The Town of Speedway officially unveiled the new Al Unser Sr. Roundabout today, celebrating a project that honors racing history while transforming a key gateway into town. 🏎

Located at 16th & Main, the new gateway honors four-time Indianapolis 500 champion Al Unser Sr. while creating a bold new front door for the community and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Featuring racing-inspired elements, commemorative metal panels, terraced landscapes, and public realm enhancements, the project blends infrastructure, placemaking, and storytelling into a signature destination for residents and race fans.

More than a traffic improvement, the roundabout strengthens connectivity, enhances the arrival experience into downtown Speedway, and celebrates the town’s deep motorsports heritage.

Today we joined the City of Westfield - Government and community partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Park Street Improvement Project, a transformational step forward for downtown Westfield.

This exciting project will reimagine Park Street as a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly corridor featuring decorative paving, outdoor gathering spaces, enhanced landscaping, upgraded stormwater infrastructure, buried utilities, and new connections to the Midland Trace Trail. A signature public plaza will create an inviting destination for residents and visitors alike.

We are honored to partner with the City of Westfield, F.A. Wilhelm, the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, and the City’s Economic Development and Parks & Recreation teams to help bring this vision to life. We look forward to seeing this important investment continue to strengthen downtown Westfield for years to come.

This past weekend, Jessica Vonderau joined the Habitat for Humanity Greater Indianapolis Women Build, where women-led teams came together to make a tangible impact. A dozen teams not only worked side by side to frame the walls for four future homes, but also contributed through fundraising efforts to help support the cost of building materials for these homes. Together, these efforts demonstrate the power of collaboration, leadership, and community.

Our team is proud to support initiatives that reflect our values by building not just places, but opportunities for others.

Through years of practice, the impact of landscape architecture becomes clearer and deeper. What begins as a design evolves into something lived in, cared for, and remembered.

From the perspective of our staff, the value of this work is revealed over time: in places that continue to serve their communities, landscapes that adapt and thrive, and relationships built through collaboration and trust.

It’s work measured not just in what is created, but in what endures.

🌎 Happy Earth Day! It’s also a meaningful moment within World Landscape Architecture Month.
We’re committed to building stronger communities and a more sustainable future.

This year, some of our team stepped into that commitment through action by volunteering with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. to plant trees at Tarkington Park, a project we’re proud to have helped shape. 🌱

Experiences like this reflect what World Landscape Architecture Month is all about: learning through action, deepening our understanding of the landscapes we design, and leading by example. It’s in these moments of working alongside partners, getting our hands in the soil, and giving back to the communities we serve that our role as landscape architects extends beyond design.
