Sun-exposed asphalt shingles typically run 50˚— 60˚ above ambient air temperature, with black shingles reaching upwards of 160˚+ during excessive heat waves. Even light-colored shingles can reach temperatures of 145˚ during the summer months.

We strongly recommend enjoying fall drinks when you can enjoy fall temperatures.

Staying busy and staging another home in Overland Park, Kansas for a new roof.

Roofs with sharp angles and steep pitches deliver incredible curb appeal. They give a house unique character and a great sense of style. But they also make the work just as challenging as it is beautiful. More ridge caps, valleys, transitions and changes in elevation mean more details to get right safely. And that's exactly where experience and craftsmanship matter.

It's not always easy, but we can't imagine doing anything else.

Or doing it any other way.

The past few months have taken a real toll on roofs in our region (as you can see from the photos below). But a new roof will last for years to come (and we'll post those photos soon).

Do Your Homework Before They Do The Work

This person took over $500,000 for construction and home remodeling projects without completing (or even beginning) the work.

Stories like this are a good reminder that not every contractor who knocks on your door, hands you a business card, gives you a free estimate or promises a "great deal" deserves your trust.

Before hiring anyone to work on your home, check their references. Verify their licenses and/or registration. Confirm their insurance and make sure you know who you're actually hiring.

In Kansas, roofing contractors are required to register with the Kansas Attorney General's Office. It takes just a few minutes to check, and it could save you thousands of dollars along with a whole lot of headaches.

A good contractor won't be offended when you do your homework. In fact, they'll expect it.

Read the story below and remember when it comes to your home, trust but verify.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said a judge sentenced Chad E. Smith to 85 months (seven years, one month) in prison “for a series of financial crimes.”

A lot of people in Kansas City woke up this morning to shattered windows, downed trees, blocked roadways and thousands of power outages after last night's severe storm tore through the area. Some schools have delayed starts while others have cancelled classes for the day altogether. There's even been a report of a roof literally being ripped off an entire apartment complex.

The National Weather Service confirmed the overnight damage was the result of a downburst, and we may not be out of the woods just yet.

More storms are possible later today (Wednesday, August 19th) from 4pm—10pm, especially north of I-70.

If your home, shed, barn or building was affected, call us for a free, no-obligation storm damage assessment. We also offer emergency roof tarping services and insurance claim assistance if you need it.

We're here for you.

Hang in there, Kansas City.

A new roof could save you thousands of dollars a year on your homeowner's insurance.

Seriously.

Here's how:

1. Using Class 4-rated shingles may qualify you for discounts with some insurance carriers because they're designed to better withstand hail and several weather.

2. A new roof means less risk. Insurance companies generally view new roofs as being less likely to generate costly claims from age-related deterioration, leaks and storm damage.

3. Modern installation practices and materials matter. A properly installed roof can include improved underlayment, flashing, ventilation and other things that reduce the likelihood you'll have problems in the future.

Different insurance companies offer different discounts, but don't assume your insurance premium will drop just because you installed a new roof. Check with your carrier before you choose your roofing materials. In some cases, making the right choice could save you a lot of money.

In the case of this home in Paola, Kansas that had a full roof replacement, the homeowners saw their annual premiums drop by $4,500.

A good roof protects your house.

The right roof may help protect your wallet, too.

Rust doesn't appear overnight. But it doesn't stop once it starts, either.

Nearly one out of every three commercial buildings in America is protected by a metal roof. They're built to last decades. However, that lifespan depends on keeping the coatings intact and addressing rust before it fully penetrates the metal.

A metal roof is usually protected by an acrylic, silicone or polyurethane coating. But years of sun, rain, hail, standing water and even foot traffic will eventually wear that protection away. Once that happens, the metal is exposed to oxygen and moisture creating oxidation. And that red/orange/brown rust spreads.

As the rust eats away at the metal, roof panels become thinner and weaker. Fasteners can loosen, seams can fail and eventually water will find its way into your building. What starts as a small patch of surface rust can become expensive structural damage if it's ignored.

The good news? Surface rust can often be cleaned, treated and recoated before it becomes a much bigger (and more expensive) problem.

Call us for a free, no-obligation inspection and we'll tell you how.
