A piece of Sterling history, thoughtfully restored.

Constructed in 1881, the Shay Building has been part of downtown Sterling for nearly 145 years, serving as everything from a mercantile and grocery store to offices, apartments, gathering space, and recreation hall.

MBC Construction was proud to help restore this historic building and preserve its place at the corner of Broadway and Monroe for the next chapter of its story.

What was once one of downtown Hutchinson's most iconic vacant buildings is officially welcoming residents home.

Congratulations to Laura Meyer-Dick, Michael Dick, and everyone who celebrated the Meyer Landmark Apartments ribbon cutting on July 2. This project has been years in the making, and it's incredible to see a historic landmark restored with new purpose while preserving the character that has defined it for generations.

We're honored to have served as the general contractor on this transformational project. While there's still exciting work ahead as the restaurant and retail spaces are completed, this milestone is one worth celebrating.

Thank you to the owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, city leaders, financing partners, and everyone who helped turn this vision into reality. It takes an incredible team to breathe new life into a building like the Meyer Landmark.

Congratulations to the new residents, and here's to the continued revitalization of downtown Hutchinson.

The Shay Building has been part of downtown Sterling since the 1880s, originally starting as a saloon and continuing to serve the community in different ways for over a century.

Now, it’s getting a new chapter.

MBC Construction is continuing work on this National Register-listed property, carefully restoring the space while preparing it for what’s next. Projects like this require a thoughtful approach, preserving history while making the building functional for the future.
