Springtime is a very important time for trees! When you prune a tree in early spring, you’re not only shaping it, you’re also activating its internal hormone system.

"Trees have hormones?"

Yes! Trees use a hormone called auxin, which flows from the canopy downward. This hormone tells the lower buds when to grow. Pruning actually helps the tree remove this hormone and promote growth to its lower buds. This results in a burst of new growth exactly where you cut

In spring, trees are just coming out of dormancy, Their energy reserves (stored sugars) are fully loaded, so when you prune the tree responds aggressively and you get stronger, more directed growth, instead of weak and random shoots. This is why most arborists and orchards prune This time of year.

Tree work is definitely expensive, no doubt about it. You will also no doubt get a wide range of prices. But is that cheaper bid always the best option?

The answer is unequivocally no.

When you get your bids, always make sure to check job equipment, insurance and licensing of the contractor Some services are able to provide such low prices because they dont have these things, and that can turn a simple job into a dangerous one. Don't risk the biggest investment you'll likely ever make on "My cousin eddie who can do it cheaper" with a chainsaw, all it takes is one mistake, and youll be footing the bill. Call us. And this folks is a prime example of why we don't top trees. If you have a tree service telling you that you should top your tree you should tell them to kick rocks and find another tree service. Preferably one that has an ISA certified arborist on staff. These clients are severely upset that this tree died and that we are having to remove it today. And the cause of death was topping. The large open wounds that likely happened in the growing season and not in the dormant season caused excessive decay and invited fungal growth which expedited the decay and out this tree in beautiful downtown Bentonville at extreme risk of failure. So today we will be removing it and prepping the site for a new tree to go back in this location in a couple weeks.

Contractors and sub contractors who did business with Over The Top Tree Service in 2025 your 1099 documents are filed and ready for pickup or delivery. If you provided us an email address you should have gotten an email from QuickBooks with a link to download your form. If you wish to pick up a paper copy of your form reach out to us for a time otherwise we will mail them out at the start of next week when we can get out. We are currently still snowed in.
