As autumn arrives, we're looking back at the community festivals that have long marked the season across Huntingdon County. This year, Hartslog Day celebrates its golden anniversary—a half-century of bringing neighbors together for food, crafts, music, and small-town celebration. Like the many fall festivals held throughout the region, Hartslog Day is a reminder that some of the best traditions are the ones that give a community a reason to gather year after year.

Free museum day today!! Our research library is open until 4 today. Stop in for a tour of the downstairs Parlor, research some roots, enjoy some free cake (in celebration of Huntingdon's 239th birthday, as long as supplies last).

You can also stop over at our Gallery and view all the items that were placed in the recent DAR Time Capsule that was opened after 50 years! Do you think you may have put something in to it way back in 1976? Stop in, because today is the day you need to claim it. We have everything laid out in alphabetical order name wise!

As harvest season begins, we're taking a look at the agricultural heritage that has long shaped Huntingdon County and the surrounding region. From family farms and hayfields to the work of getting each harvest home, agriculture has played an important role in local life and livelihood. This farmer clearly had the art of strategic bale stacking down to a science. Scenes like this capture the rhythm of the season—and the hard work, ingenuity, and traditions that remain part of the region’s story.

Everyday life has a way of becoming history. In this early 20th-century photograph, a cow stands in the middle of Stone Creek — a scene apparently unusual enough that someone stopped to capture it. (you can see construction on the chapel in Blair Park underway on the right) It’s a charming glimpse of another time and a reminder that local history can be found in even the most unexpected moments.

As Labor Day approaches, we're looking back at a Broad Top tradition that has brought the community together for decades: the annual Old Timers Baseball Game. Traditionally held over the holiday weekend, the game is more than a chance to take the field—it’s a celebration of community, friendly competition, and a lasting love of the game. Players, families, and fans gather to reconnect, cheer from the sidelines, and keep this beloved Labor Day tradition alive.
