The scariest thing we saw last October had nothing to do with costumes. A homeowner heard a faint hiss for two weeks and assumed it was the fridge. It was a split supply line inside a wall, and by the time we opened the drywall, the studs were black.

Four things to handle before the first cold snap.

🔹Disconnect garden hoses and empty them so trapped moisture can't freeze inside the spigot

🔹Turn every shutoff valve in the house, including the main, so they aren't seized when you need them in a hurry

🔹Pour a bucket down floor drains and rarely used tubs to keep the traps sealed and odors out
