At Tufano & Sons Roofing, we’re big believers in showing you exactly what we’re looking at, explaining what’s wrong, and helping you understand what actually needs to be fixed.

We get it, there are a lot of roofers to choose from out there. But one of the biggest things you should be looking for? That the people working on your home are showing up sober.

Unfortunately, substance misuse is something we’ve seen firsthand in this industry. Before starting Tufano & Sons, we saw plenty of things on other job sites that had no business happening around someone’s home.

And listen, we’re not saying this to knock anybody struggling with addiction. That isn’t who we are.

We’re saying it as a warning because roofing is dangerous work, and there’s no room for someone to be impaired when they’re working several stories above your home, your car, your family, and your neighbor’s property.

Also, while we’re at it, let’s talk about how sometimes this creates scenarios where jobs are quoted far below what they should actually cost. That’s one of the many reasons why a cheap quote isn’t always a good deal.

Especially when the contractor isn’t properly licensed or insured, the work isn’t done right, and you’re potentially left dealing with the damage or liability when something goes wrong if they aren’t sober.

Before hiring ANY contractor, ask questions.

Check their insurance.

Verify their licensing.

Read their reviews.

Pay attention to who’s showing up to do the work.

Always trust your gut, too. If someone shows up to the job all out of sorts, not appearing sober, you’re home is on the line.

You wouldn’t believe some of the things we’ve found on flat roofs in Philly. 😂

Cell phones, questionable paraphernalia, things we’re pretty sure were involved in a crime, and enough balls to start our own sporting goods store.

After 10+ years of working on Philadelphia rowhomes, we’ve just about seen it all.

We weren’t expecting this. But every good roofer is familiar with an experience like this from time to time.

Very few in this business are going to admit to you that they’ve had issues come up in their work.

What matters is what how those issues were handled.

On this job, some of our work accidentally caused an issue at a neighboring home, where we did complimentary services.
