Water has a way of finding places it absolutely does not belong.

Behind siding. Under stucco. Inside walls. Around windows. Above ceilings.

And by the time the damage becomes obvious, what’s happening underneath can be a whole lot worse than what you see on the surface.

These are different projects, but they all have something in common: water got in, stayed where it shouldn’t, and damaged the materials behind the finished surfaces.

Finding the source and repairing all of the damage matters. Covering up what you can see doesn't fix what's happening underneath.

Sometimes good remodeling isn't about making something stand out.

It's about doing the work so well that you'd never know we were there.

That entire wall was opened up, rebuilt, finished, and put back together like nothing happened.

There’s a lot to like about this shower.

The modern gray tile, the pebble shower floor, the built-in corner bench — and then there’s that window detail. 😍

Instead of simply finishing around the window with the same wall tile, the pebble tile from the shower floor was carried up along the sides of the window. It’s a small detail, but it ties the different materials together and gives the shower a little more personality.

Functional, modern, and definitely not boring.

This is a lintel.

That big, heavy piece of concrete spanning the opening has an important job: it supports the masonry and weight above the door or window and transfers that load to the structure on either side. This is part of the reason projects like this require engineered drawings.

Most of the time, your lintels are hidden behind stucco and finishes, so you never give them a second thought.

But when you're creating a large new opening like this one, you get to see just how much structure is actually involved.

And did we mention they're heavy? Because they're really freaking heavy. 😂

A small bathroom in a home built in the early 1900s doesn't give you a whole lot of room to work with.

But look what you can do with the space you have.

A new shower, classic subway tile, updated flooring and fixtures gave this little bathroom a completely new look while keeping a style that feels right at home in an older house.

Big transformations don't always require big rooms.
