This is why I am talking customers out of planting HD screen yet ( next 2 weeks ) in the upper 3rd of the country. It’s been way too cold and the soil temps are not ready.
We are planting end of June at the earliest.

How deep is the root system on a 6" diameter oak? Exactly 1 skid steer deep! 😆

Just wrapped up a project installing a miscanthus screen to protect access to hunting blinds, and the difference it makes will be huge. A tall, dense wall of miscanthus keeps your entry and exit completely hidden, cuts down pressure, and lets deer stay relaxed and unbothered.

This setup will pay off all season long — quiet access, better movement, and a blind that stays “invisible.”

If you’re thinking about improving your blind access, miscanthus is one of the smartest upgrades you can make.

Wrapped up another miscanthus planting project, and I’m excited about what this will add to the property over the next couple of seasons. Miscanthus is one of those long‑term habitat investments that really pays off — once it establishes, it creates serious vertical structure, security cover, and defined movement corridors for whitetails.

This planting is set up to improve daytime security, tighten up travel routes, and help guide deer movement more predictably across the property. As it fills in, it’ll also serve as a natural screen, reducing pressure and keeping deer comfortable using the area in daylight.

Projects like this take time to mature, but they’re the kind of improvements that truly transform a property’s layout and overall habitat quality. Always a great feeling getting another step in the ground.

Finished several evergreen plantings over the past week. Each one is designed to build privacy, visual screening, and a cleaner, more structured look across the landscape. It’s great seeing these projects come together and knowing they’ll only get better with time.

I spent part of this week working with a wonderful customer who specializes in growing and selling annual flowers. The first project involved creating a new bed with raised growing rows for the upcoming season. Next, I prepared another bed that’s scheduled for wildflower planting later this year. I finished the visit by giving the driveway a fresh grade to eliminate the potholes that had accumulated over time.

I more than doubled the number of fruit trees on this property and brought in several mature apple and pear trees to give the orchard a strong head start on production. Because the soil on this site is very sandy, each tree was planted with a high‑organic‑matter soil blend and finished with several inches of mulch to improve moisture retention and nutrient availability.

With the mix of varieties we installed, the orchard will produce fruit continuously from September through December. The final step to complete these plots will be adding chestnut trees in May.
