Most people would have left this piece of wood on the beach.
We took it home.
Because when we saw it, we didn't just see an old piece of driftwood.
We had an idea.
Our client loves turtles.
And the ocean is already part of the personality of her home.
So we thought...
Why not bring a piece of the beach inside?
Of course, turning driftwood into something that belongs inside someone's home isn't as simple as cutting a board.
Every cut had to work around the natural shape of the wood.
And we didn't want to remove every crack, hole or imperfection.
That was the whole point.
We weren't trying to erase its story.
While we worked on the wood, we also transformed the old fireplace with large-format tile.
Then everything started coming together.
The driftwood became a custom mantel.
And four floating shelves.
Each one made specifically for this home, with integrated sensor lighting.
And when our client decorated those shelves with the turtles and pieces she loves...
the idea finally made sense.
We didn't just remodel her fireplace.
We brought a little piece of the beach home.
