A dock on a lake in East Texas and a dock on Galveston Bay shouldn't be built from the same lumber. The wood has to match the water.

Freshwater docks: minimum 0.60 pcf treated wood
Saltwater docks: 2.5 pcf treated wood

That pcf number is pounds of preservative per cubic foot. Saltwater brings marine borers, so it takes a much heavier treatment.

The first named storm of 2026 already made landfall on the Texas coast, and the season runs through November 30 with the peak typically hitting in September.
