Over the last few years we have noticed a distinct difference in how the insurance companies address major losses and have been surprised by their audacity. I seen a post that I am borrowing from one of the forums that we are on and it goes to show the sum of the goals of the insurance companies put in the form of a conversation:

PUBLIC ADJUSTER: "Well Mr insurance adjuster, you
can see that after 8 months we finally got an
appraisal award that proves our original demand was
reasonable. So I just want to point out that we won.
ADJUSTER: "what do you mean YOU won? You
didn't get any more than you were originally entitled
to, you had to wait for months, and you had to pay
appraisal fees. We taught you a lesson that it's
expensive to mess with us. We made a little bit of
interest on the money. We destroyed the relationship
between our insured and their contractor. So at best
we are even. Not to mention you're just one of many
claims we handle. Most insureds don't fight. In part
because they know how hard it is to deal with us.
You've broken even on one battle but we are winning
the war. One more thing, with our heartwarming
patriotic and family-oriented advertising, most
people still believe we are kind and wonderful."
