‘Tis the Season for new construction. Another one of our houses, this one near Rice Village, is getting ready to come out of the ground. Yes, the client knew a high-rise was going to be built behind their home. This property belonged to one of our client’s parents and they were raised here long before the tower, so this house among other things is about tying the past to the future.

On Friday, I got to see our Hillshire Village project with windows installed. I find this stage a bit funny, because it looks like “house,” but things are off — the house is green, the windows seem weirdly small, and when doing a neo-colonial house like this one, it feels like the house is”plain” or missing something. Well,… it is, and over the years I’ve learned to stop freaking out. This house has a LOT going for it, not least of which is the care we put into the scale of windows, the trim, and the shutters on all those exterior walls, much of which hasn’t been added yet. Later on in construction, you will begin to see how the proportions start to make sense. We are still a bit in the ugly duckling phase, but I am confident this one will be a real value add to the neighborhood. Check out the basketball barn and gym in the back of the property. The styling of it will make for a perfect backdrop to the view from the living room across the burg to be built pool. See you on the next one.
