As you start to spend more time indoors, you’ll find that fall allergies don’t always stay outside. Dust, pollen, and pet dander can build up inside your home too and start affecting your air quality.

To help keep your air comfortable during allergy season, our pros suggest checking your HVAC filter regularly. A dirty filter can restrict airflow, causing your system to work harder than necessary.

If it’s been a while since you checked your filter, consider this your fall reminder. And if your home still feels dusty or stuffy, our Pros can help take a closer look at your system and indoor air quality.

❌ MYTH: Closing vents means your AC has less space to cool, so it uses less energy.

✅ FACT: Your HVAC system is designed to move a certain amount of air throughout your home. Closing too many vents can restrict airflow and create added pressure in the system, which may make it work harder instead of more efficiently.

For better airflow and efficiency, keep your vents open and let your system do the job it was designed to do.

Your AC worked hard all summer long and in Houston, that doesn't stop just because the calendar flipped to fall.

Before Houston temperatures finally start to cool down, September is a great time to give your system a little attention.

A maintenance check now can catch issues after months of heavy use and make sure your system is ready to keep working while the heat holds on.

Not every AC issue means it’s time for a full replacement, but at some point, continuing to put a Band-Aid on an aging system can start costing you more than it saves.

Signs for repair: If your AC has a minor issue, is still cooling your home well overall, and hasn’t needed frequent service, a repair may be all you need.

Signs for replacement: If your AC needs frequent repairs, struggles to keep your home comfortable, or your energy bills keep climbing with no explanation, it may be time to ask whether another repair is really the best investment.

Not sure if it’s time to repair or replace? Luckily, you don’t have to make that call alone. Give our Pros a call. We’re always happy to take a look, and you can get a free estimate on a new system.

Your ceiling fan and AC are not doing the same job.

A ceiling fan helps you feel cooler by moving air across your skin, but it does not actually lower the temperature in the room.

Your AC is what removes heat and humidity from your home and brings the indoor temperature down.

The best approach? Use them together. Running a ceiling fan while you are in the room can help you feel more comfortable without relying solely on your AC.

Just remember to turn the fan off when you leave. If nobody is in the room, there is nobody there for it to cool.

September may be here, but Houston heat doesn’t always follow the calendar.

In fact, Houston’s all-time record high of 109°F was first set in September 2000. Even during the extreme heat of 2011 and 2023, temperatures only tied that record.

So while we may be looking forward to cooler days ahead, Houston has taught us not to count the heat out just yet.

If the heat catches up to your unit, House Pro is here to help with emergency AC repairs. Give us a call at 713-913-6581.
