If you want to come home to a front yard like this, we would love to have you as our next client.

This installation is less than two years old. The Red Maple went in as a 3 gallon. The biggest maintenance problem is the Crape Myrtle.
An herb garden borders the porch. Rosemary and chives have been the most successful herbs in Houston.
We plan to replace the Texas Sedge with a happier sedge. I haven’t figured out how to make Texas Sedge happy yet. I also need to add Asclepias, because there was a Monarch lurking about today.
Purple Coneflower isn’t native and isn’t apologizing. 💅
But we will be featuring some gorgeous Sanguine Coneflowers soon.

Our process for installing a in lawn.

Stats- 62 plants, 14 species, ~100 square feet

A note on fertilizer ☝️ My usual regimen is to the Microlife 8-4-6 granular and then foliar spray with Ocean’s Harvest. I also like to do a dusting of compost prior to planting. While not entirely necessary for natives, this will help with transplant shock. The purpose of this video was to show a stripped down process with no extra products or materials. Just grit and sweat 🤠 and a little magic. The secret is there is no secret. 🤫

Brand new installation of stone retaining wall and pocket prairie located in the museum district. We are thrilled that so many commuters will see this example of native plants in action every day! More exciting developments at this site to come. 🤩👩🏽‍🌾🤠

Except for the seasonal color - cultivated purslane, a nativar that will not survive our seasons 🙃 used upon request as a decoy to prevent theft of the natives.

Maintaining the edge with a weedeater is important and easy. Follow these simple rules and you’re golden:

✅ 1) Weedeater in the vertical position

✅ 2) Spray directed outside of the bed

✅ 3) Multiple passes – 2 steps forward, 1 step back

✅ 4) Firm grip for precision

Your lawn can be an intentional space to walk, play, and even host beneficial insects. Maintain it properly so that it complements your native plant beds and does not compete with them.
