See leaves like this? It means your trees need more water!
Walking on a property a few days ago I spotted an Autum Blaze Maple in a parking lot with what looked like early fall colors. Upon closer inspection, the leaves were scorched from top to bottom. Leaf scorch happens when the plant/tree leaves lose water faster than they can supply it. This often happens during periods of intense heat, hot wind, dry soil, or to trees with damaged roots. The dry weather this summer in addition to the expected dry fall conditions make it even more important to water your trees.
We recommend watering mature trees with a soaker hose once a week in the early morning or late evening. Do it long enough to saturate the top 6 inches of the soil. This could take up to a couple hours. Newly planted trees can take 20-25 gallons of water per week for the first 5 years.
