I saw this unfinished playground area yesterday and I’m really curious what they’re going to fill it with… I’m hoping it’s rubber mulch!
I get it, wood chips are cheaper upfront. But that’s where a lot of the benefits stop.
Wood chips rot, break down, attract insects, and need to be replenished regularly. Over time, that means more maintenance, more labor, and more money for the city.
A city playground is an investment in the community. So why not choose a surface that is safer, longer-lasting, and requires less maintenance?
Rubber mulch is:
- Certified fall-height protection (IPEMA certified)
- Backed by a 12-year color guarantee
- Made from recycled rubber
- More resistant to shifting and erosion than traditional wood mulch
- Doesn’t attract termites and other wood-destroying insects (cats and dogs don’t like it either 👌)
- Low heat absorption for a more comfortable play surface
- Designed to save money on long-term maintenance and replacement
It’s 2026. Maybe it’s time we start thinking beyond the cheapest option upfront — and start looking at what’s safer, lasts longer, and saves our communities money in the long run.
