It's 80 degrees out. Your thermostat isn't calling for heat. And your boiler just fired up in the basement. πŸ˜…

Before you panic: in a lot of New Hampshire homes, the boiler has two jobs. It heats the house in the winter, and it makes your hot water all year long. Showers, dishes, laundry. So summer operation can be completely normal.

What matters more is whether the behavior has changed. A boiler that fires after three morning showers is doing exactly what it should. A boiler that's suddenly cycling on and off all day, or a house that's running out of hot water faster than it used to, is telling you something different.

We put together a plain-English breakdown of which one you're hearing πŸ‘‰ https://alterryplumbing.com/blog/boiler-running-in-summer/

Most people ask us for a multi-zone mini-split for the same reason: they don't want three condensers sitting along the side of the house. 🏑

Fair. But here's the trade-off nobody mentions in the showroom. When one outdoor unit is sized for several small rooms and only one of those rooms is actually calling for heat, the system can't run at a low enough speed to keep up with itself. It cycles on and off instead of running steady. You lose comfort, you lose humidity control, and you put extra wear on equipment you just paid for.

That doesn't mean multi-zone is wrong. Grouped bedrooms in a compact Cape, similar schedules, limited exterior space, it's often the better call. It means the grouping has to be designed, not assumed.

The rooms you connect to one condenser matter more than the brand on the box. Here's how we decide which rooms belong together πŸ‘‰ https://alterryplumbing.com/blog/single-zone-vs-multi-zone-mini-splits-nh/

πŸ’§ PFAS in your well water? Test first, then choose a filter.

🏑 If your New Hampshire home runs on a private well, PFAS testing and treatment are your responsibility, not a utility's. And here's the tricky part: you can't see, taste, or smell these "forever chemicals."

πŸ§ͺ Start with a certified lab test. It tells you which PFAS compounds are present, at what levels, and whether iron, manganese, hardness, or radon are also in play, all of which affect how well a PFAS filter actually performs. (Store-bought DIY kits won't cut it, and they don't qualify for rebate paperwork. ❌)

🚿 Whole-house or under-sink? That's the next big decision and sometimes the right answer is both. Whole-house RO, on the other hand, is usually more complicated than homeowners expect: it wastes a lot of water, can overload a septic system, and makes water more corrosive to plumbing. ⚠️

πŸ’΅ New Hampshire has also offered a PFAS removal rebate program for eligible private well owners, worth checking before you start any work.

πŸ“– Our new guide covers testing, system options, pre-treatment, rebate basics, and the questions to ask before anyone touches your plumbing πŸ‘‰ https://alterryplumbing.com/blog/pfas-in-your-nh-home/

πŸ’§ Ever hopped in the shower, only for it to turn into a weak trickle the moment someone flushes the toilet or starts the dishwasher? 🚿🚽

You're not imagining it and it's probably not "just low water pressure." It could be your plumbing system struggling to keep up when multiple fixtures demand water at once. 🏠

The real cause could be anything from a clogged filter, to how your well system operates, to the size of the pipes running through your home. πŸ”§

If this sounds familiar, our latest blog breaks down exactly why it happens (and what you can do about it) πŸ‘‡
