Closing on a historic home is a dream, but it immediately introduces a classic renovation dilemma: How do you honor a home’s architectural roots while creating a space that handles the day-to-day chaos of a young family with a toddler?

Do you gut it and start from scratch, or do you preserve the soul of the house?

Fusing modern functionality with historical charm is a delicate puzzle. For this Jersey City kitchen, the whole vision started with a fantastic personal connection. After visiting a friend’s home and falling in love with a Mowery Marsh project there, the homeowners came to us brimming with ideas. Our cabinetry designer, Amos Embersol, took those initial sparks of inspiration and collaborated closely with the family to create something entirely custom and deeply personal.

The result is a grounded, warm take on Modern Heritage design. Here is how the details came together:

✨ The Palette: A soft matte studio green on the perimeter cabinetry creates a calm, historic foundation, while the deeply veined marble backsplash brings beautiful, organic textures inside.

✨ The Hidden Details: Our millshop team loved crafting this element. Opening the painted upper doors reveals gorgeous warm walnut interiors. Bathed in integrated lighting, this gentle inner glow turns everyday glassware into a beautiful feature.

✨ The Heart of the Room: We built a freestanding walnut island with classic fluted turned legs and brass ferrules, designed to feel more like an inherited antique than standard kitchen casework.

✨ The Centerpiece: Sitting perfectly against the dramatic stone is a black Lacanche range. Beyond being a serious culinary workhorse, it brings a rich layer of European heritage that pairs flawlessly with the custom woodwork.

Every historic renovation is a balancing act of preserving the past while building for the future.

What challenges or inspiration puzzles are you trying to solve in your own space right now? Are you trying to work around original architectural quirks or figure out the right layout for a growing family? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

When you are hosting friends during the summer, the kitchen naturally becomes the hub. You want the energy to be warm and welcoming, full of conversation and not cluttered with dishes, blenders, and meal prep.

For this custom estate, the goal was to build a high-functioning culinary workspace hidden right next to the kitchen, maintaining a peaceful, organized feeling once the heavy cooking is done.

Bringing a vision like this to life takes an incredible amount of dedication. This project was a beautiful, deep collaboration with the homeowner, who poured more than a thousand hours and years of careful planning into every single detail. They met with us diligently, working alongside our cabinet designer to perfect the plans while our millshop team engineered and handcrafted the final pieces to fit their lifestyle beautifully.

🎨 The Finish: Natural Cream with a velvet matte sheen. This specific tone brings a soft, organic warmth to the cabinetry that feels incredibly grounded and timeless.

🧅 The Storage Details: Custom pull-out drawers with integrated black woven-wire faces. This provides beautiful, ventilated storage for root vegetables right under the counter.

📏 The Appliance Integration: Hand-fitted overlay panels. From under-counter beverage drawers to the built-in ice maker, concealing heavy appliances preserves clean sightlines.
At Master Design Cabinetry, we love the challenge of turning years of a homeowner's dreams into structural reality. When cabinetry functions beautifully, the whole room feels more grounded.

There is a breathtaking moment after a heavy rainstorm when a brilliant rainbow appears to kiss the sky. A fleeting promise of clear days ahead. Inside our homes, we look for that same sense of promise, translated into lasting details that bring a sense of ease to our daily routines.

As we welcome the early days of summer, we are looking back at the craftsmanship behind this Ocean City retreat. A home with an understated legacy relies on a quiet quality, felt just as much in the visible artistry as the precision engineering hidden beneath it. We partnered with the creative team at J9 Design to craft custom millwork that sets the tone for the entire house. This throwback shows how a designer's layout, a builder's ex*****on, and a cabinet maker's precision work together to turn a beach house into a permanent summer retreat.

At Master Design Cabinetry, our work is less about measurements on a page and more about the quiet rhythm of home life. True craftsmanship is felt in the seamless way a cabinet opens on a slow Monday morning, or how a perfectly scaled mantle anchors the room while you watch the tide come in. It is an artisanal approach that prioritizes your family's daily movements, creating a backdrop that feels as natural and enduring as the coastline itself.

It brings the comfort of returning from the sand to a quiet, functional haven, a beautiful setting for your favorite summer escapes.

In a household of five, life moves to a beautiful, relentless rhythm. It is a home deeply shaped by our talented homeowner’s musical gifts, where her fingers dance over the piano keys to fill the halls with melody. But outside of those quiet, artistic moments, family life brings a different kind of energy: endless sports schedules, mud-crusted gear, and frantic espresso spills right before a major family gathering.

Amidst the beautiful madness, we all search for order. We look for a space that grants us a daily do-over, because in life, you rarely get one.

Achieving that order doesn't mean sacrificing beauty to utility. Instead, it means creating a meditative sanctuary hummed to sleep by the quiet cycles of washing. It is a reflective space that places organization into our lives when the rest of the day feels uncontrollable.

By blending an unapologetic design vision with old-school cabinet-making precision, we turned this high-traffic mud zone into a space that handles the chaos for you. The saturated, moody forestwood green palette was a deliberate choice by the talented homeowner. Guided by her sharp aesthetic eye, she wanted to bring the grounding, steadying presence of nature indoors, anchoring a room built specifically for peace. Paired flawlessly with timeless marble, it proves that the rooms that work the hardest deserve the absolute finest craftsmanship.

The true luxury of this space is realized when you look past the joinery and simply use it to effortlessly reset after a demanding day. When you cannot control the chaos of the world outside, having one quiet, beautifully crafted corner to ground you makes all the difference.

For a family whose roots are deeply tied to generations of coffee farming in Brazil, the morning brew is far more than a quick routine. It is a sacred daily ritual, a connection to family history, and an essential pause before a busy day begins. But when you add three kids rushing around on the last day of school, that peaceful morning ritual needs a highly functional space to survive the beautiful chaos.

There is a traditional Brazilian saying, s**o vazio não para em pé, which reminds us that an empty sack simply cannot stand upright. For this mom, who is incredibly passionate about preparing healthy, nourishing meals, a proper breakfast is non-negotiable. We collaborated with these homeowners to design custom cabinetry that respects both their deep-rooted morning traditions and the fast-paced reality of a lively household.

This dedicated breakfast station and appliance garage brings a deep sense of calm to those hectic moments. With a gentle push, the precision pocket doors slide completely into the cabinetry structure, keeping the high-traffic walkways entirely clear while the espresso machine is in use. On the outside, the soft, custom-blended neutral finish and matte black hardware offer a clean, sophisticated look that balances the grand black-framed windows and the statement Lacanche range.

The thoughtfulness continues inside the drawers right next to the cooking zone. The lower drawers open to reveal tailored organization, featuring custom-milled solid wood dividers made specifically to hold rolling pins, baking utensils, and essential cooking oils. Handcrafted with premium, furniture-grade dovetail joinery, these drawer boxes are engineered to endure a century of busy family mornings and spontaneous cafezinho breaks. True custom design ensures your kitchen looks effortlessly beautiful while making daily family life run perfectly.

Behind every great open space is a homeowner with vision. For this Fair Haven colonial, the owners spent five years studying the light before taking on a massive 13-month renovation. They knocked out the walls and replaced the supporting columns with hidden steel beams, clearing the way for a bright, open floor plan.

Our team came in to craft custom millwork that made the most of that newfound openness.

They skipped a traditional tile backsplash for a continuous wall of windows looking into the trees. Brilliant move! Zero grout to scrub. Granted, you trade that chore for cleaning glass, but at least you get to enjoy nature while doing it. With no tile to hide behind, our installation team ensured the custom cabinetry was perfectly plumb and dead-level, leaving no room for error where the stone counters meet the window casings. To frame the view, we used a clean slab and Euro combo style painted in Natural Cream, keeping it sleek but welcoming for three kids.

Every piece in this kitchen was built entirely around how the family actually lives. The homeowner wanted to see everything at once without digging through deep drawers, so we built custom-partitioned wooden inserts where her vintage pastry tools sit right alongside everyday essentials.

Nearby, the coffee station works the same way. The retractable pocket doors stay wide open for busy school mornings, then slide shut to hide the clutter when it is time to entertain.

Just across the room, the home bar brings a beautiful layer of texture to the open space. We used natural rift-sawn white oak for its tight vertical grain and excellent stability over long drawer spans. Pairing it with Euro custom drawer fronts keeps the lines completely unbroken to show off the wood, while the fluted, reeded curve at the end softens the transition into the dining area. Plus, a rounded corner is much friendlier to navigate when the room is full of guests.

Bringing this level of structural coordination and custom woodwork together is a massive undertaking, but it is exactly how you build a home to last for generations. We partner with visionary homeowners and design teams who refuse to compromise on the details.

A room should feel like it was made for the people in it. We have all had those nights where the conversation flows so easily that nobody wants to leave.

In our latest collaboration with KMG Interiors, we focused on creating cabinetry that reflects a home acting as the ultimate host. The goal was to design a space that allows you to move effortlessly through the kitchen while hosting a gathering, without ever feeling like you have stepped away from the party.

The hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper reflects the regal landscapes and architectural history of India. The designer paired this heritage with a palette that nods to the rich jewel tones of the culture. By using deep Tarrytown Green in the kitchen and a sapphire blue for the couch, these colors act as the emerald and sapphire of the home. These tones ground the rooms and pull the history on the walls into a very modern way of living.

Cabinetry holds your favorite glassware and statement pieces exactly where they are needed. By keeping everything on display, the built-ins become a curated part of the evening. They keep you connected to the heart of the gathering even while you are moving through the kitchen to top off a drink or prep a plate. 🤍

From the earthy, grounded florals on the table to the jewel tones throughout the rooms, every choice was about being present. True luxury is not just about the art on the walls. It is about the art of bringing people together.

Lancaster County is famously the "Garden Spot of America," a title confirmed by the riot of blossoms outside my window. It is breathtaking, partly for the pastoral splendor and partly for the artisanal pollen cocktail currently colonizing our sinuses. But with this seasonal debut comes the inevitable: your family is intent on bringing the great outdoors inside. If your foyer is currently masquerading as a high traffic trailhead, it’s time to discuss the transition sanctuary aka transition ZONE "the mudroom".

Here is how we curate spaces that hide the clutter while whispering luxury...

🪵 Bespoke Millwork: A true built in look requires precision. We favor inset Shaker cabinetry with crown molding scribed to the ceiling. It is a seamless finish that eliminates last season's dust traps.

🔨 Resilient Substrates: Standard drywall is no match for a wet Golden Retriever or a stray lacrosse stick. We pivot toward moisture resistant beadboard or shiplap, materials built to endure daily impact while looking effortlessly chic.

🐕 Sophisticated Utility: For our four legged residents, we design ventilated pet stations and recessed toe kick nooks. These details ensure wet dog is not the primary home fragrance and keep feeding bowls out of your path.

A peaceful home ensures the mess stops where the cabinetry begins. We engineer these layouts with strategic intent:

🥾 The Primary Drop Zone: An integrated bench seat serves as a mandatory checkpoint for shoe removal.

☔️ Vertical Utility: We utilize soffit height cabinetry for seasonal rotations, tucking away gear in the upper reaches while keeping daily essentials within reach.

🧺 Bespoke Configurations: Whether your floor plan requires a linear corridor or an L shaped suite, we define the footprint to suit your specific rhythm.

Which mudroom would best fit your family’s home?

May your rainy boots remain tucked away and your home stays as fresh as a daisy. 🌼

What happens when you collaborate with a designer who was a professional chef and owned three restaurants? The kitchen becomes something far beyond a beautiful room: it becomes a high-performance workspace.

That is exactly why we enjoyed this project with DV Designs. Beyond simply making the room “b r e a t h e”, they established a true restaurant flow where every element is intuitive and purposeful. In the culinary world, the "Mise en place" mindset is everything. It is the belief that a kitchen is only as functional as its ability to handle the daily rush while maintaining a whisper-quiet, soft-close experience.

Life can be chaotic, but through this level of intentionality, your kitchen supports a routine that balances the noise. This efficiency is anchored by euro-frameless cabinetry, providing full-access storage that maximizes every square inch without center stile interference.

The aesthetic choices are just as deliberate as the mechanics. While the Dove white perimeter emits a soft architectural glow that makes every morning feel centered and calm, the Nutmeg Walnut island acts as "The Pass." This is the central command center of the home where prep meets plating.

We have replaced visual clutter with technical excellence to ensure your home always maintains its rhythm. It is the quiet "ah ha" moment of a space that anticipates your needs, turning the precision of the craft into the simple ease of living well.

May your day maintain its flow in perfect mise en place.

They say you can’t be in two places at once, but we beg to differ. We call this project Modern Heritage. It is a design where Then and Now don’t just coexist; they perform a seamless choreography of eras. Think 19th-century soul meets 21st-century precision.

For this Jersey City home, we respected the original 19th-century bones while making room for modern essentials: namely premium espresso and high-definition aesthetics. We framed the original, ornate hearth with bespoke millwork that honors the home’s scale while hiding its high-performance secrets. Clad in a soft architectural taupe, the cabinetry doesn’t shout; it whispers legacy.

The real beauty is in the engineering. Furniture-grade beaded frames meet pocket door systems for a bit of a disappearing act. The room reveals a concealed coffee station and media hub when you need them. When you are finished, the doors shut to restore the room’s formal integrity.

We bridged the eras using vertical reeded glass for a historic glow, all anchored by a monolithic Verde marble slab. Because if we are being honest, most designs are built for the moment, not the memory. We prefer to curate environments where architectural integrity remains long after the look of the month has faded. This is how you create a living masterpiece without having to sacrifice your morning espresso, or proper brew.
